Thumbs down Camping World

I love the idea of having them all over the country for convenience sake but I have been disappointed twice recently. I had to use the Good Sam roadside service. The tire on my tow dolly blue out. Someone arrived 3 hours later with a tire. They charged me twice the price of the one I had replaced a few months earlier and $130 to put it on. It took less than 10 minutes. I call that gouging.
I recently purchased a 2014 Class A from their store near Salt Lake City. I was told they would do a PDI(Pre Delivery Inspection). They had 2 weeks to do that before I picked it up. When I arrived to pick it up they did a walk through with me, At that time there were small things that needed to be fixed so I had to wait. I drove back to Calif. and within the first week things happened. The water lever on the toilet sticks but I didn't know that so the first time I plugged in the water hose I then went away for an hour. When I returned the black tank filled and overflowed inside. It shorted out the slide controller. The radio had just been placed in the hole but not attached so it fell into the hole. I had the batteries checked and found that 4 of 8 cells were no good. One didn't even have any fluid. I then had the tire pressure checked and they were all down about 20 lbs. It became very obvious that I had been lied to. Nothing had been checked. I wrote a comment on the website since the store manager wouldn't call me back. He called the next day and agreed to pay for the slide controller and radio. At the time I didn't about the batteries and tires. When I finally realized that nothing had been done I called to complain a higher authority. I was passed to the regional manager and he apologized. He agreed to pay for the batteries as well. While they did the right thing after the fact with little problem I can't get over the fact it happened at all. I won't be using the road service again and I will think twice about ever shopping or obtaining service from them. Toooo bad.

Customer service #1, profit #2. If done in that order the profit will be there in the end. Perhaps at some point they'll realize that.

Re the road service, your beef is with the company that provided the actual tire service. Good Sam & Camping World just found and dispatched them to help you - they didn't set the labor rate or tire prices. Yeah, you got gouged. Stranded on the roadside and no way to shop around for a cheaper tire or installation fee.

Sad that CW did such a shoddy job on the PDI & prep of your vehicle. Wish I could say with any assurance that some other dealer would have done better, but this sort of crappy service seems the norm for RV dealers. Bummer.

We walked out of the Salt Lake store after we couldnt get past the reception desk by ourselves and went down the road to General and bought our motorhome. They simply dont care as there are plenty of buyers. The business model works for them at this time, but wait til economy isnt so good, but by then the money is in the bank. The PDI at General was thorough.

Wow. Nothing at all the experience I have had with Nashville CW. Everyone is greeted when the go in, asked if they need help, directed to appropriate areas and service is good. Some CWS do care.

I have nightmares over the thoughts of the two RVs I've purchased at CW. The problem is I was stupid enough to buy a second one from them. If it were not for the fine people at Thor Motorcoach I would have driven it off a cliff. CW forgets who you are as soon as they see your taillights leave the lot. Now I won't even go there to buy a roll of toilet paper. If you still go there after knowing what to expect, you're as stupid as I was. Thor on the other hand is the finest company I have ever dealt with. I've now owned two and my RV of choice will always be a TMC product. Just never again from CW.

I am surprised that they are still is business. I have never read a good review of them or talked with anyone with a good word for them. We went to the one near us and talk about high pressure sales. I will never return.

I second that comment. Best customer service whose reps stood unquestionably behind their product.

Another CW less than good

Picked up our MH at Avondale CW, AZ. Was disappointed they did almost nothing to vehicle, tires were under inflated, FL was at 60 lbs, FR at 70, spec is 82. Not being a trusting soul, I checked as much as I could at the campground the first night we stayed in it and started making notes. Home now and my next couple days are set...fixing shortcomings of CW.
Not going there again...ever...for any reason...ever.

Bob

I agree that they have a bad reputation, but also some people seem to shoot themselves in the foot. Why not carry a spare for that tow dolly? Then if you get a flat the roadside service will change it at no cost. JMO

I tow a Dutchmen with a spare, a 5x7 utility trailer with a spare and a TV with a spare. Why anyone would travel without a spare is puzzling at best. Absolutely agree with the comments about CW's reputation.

I have had poor repair service and everything takes weeks, if not months, to repair. The Thor Miramar is now 14 months old and we have had multiple problems, from the step falling completely off to the slide not retracting to the bathroom door leaking like a sieve, ad nauseum. In every case Thor came through with parts and labor. But the bottom line for me is the poor craftsmanship, poor quality material and fixtures, and non existent quality control at the Thor factory. We had wood shavings in several cabinets and a cracker wrapper in one. That is poor quality control. I seriously doubt I will ever buy another RV from CW. Buying another Thor is a long shot, too.
