Camping World tow dolly

I purchased a tow dolly from CW a year ago. I noticed this year that the tires were not wearing properly. I called them to take a look at it. They said who worked on this last?? I said no one because it didn't get much use last year. They said the spindle nuts were loose!?!? Long story short, they won't fix it. Out of warranty and not their fault. I said you guys are the ones who assembled it!!!! I'm fair, all I want is the bearings and spindles repaired. I'll take care of new tires. Am I being unreasonable??........

Just asking here, but isn't checking that reasonable maintenance requirement? Or at least 'shaking' the tires side to side to see if there is any play?

How many miles did you put on it in a year?
When I build or buy a new trailer, the first thing that I recognize is that the new bearings will break in and I'll need to adjust them.

IF CW didn't tell you that adjustment was fairly stardard, shame on them..

It might have been improperly adjusted out of the gate, but impossible to know now.

Likely the spindles aren't damaged - you'll need to post a photo to be sure. I'd have a trailer shop check and adjust the bearing pre-load. They'll also tell you if you trashed the bearings. It's not an expensive fix... But again, new bearings = adjustment upon break in.

Even the owners manual says nothing about checking spindles. Does say to check lugs which I did. It has bearing buddies to pump additional grease into them. I've bought several types of trailers over the years and never had this problem. And yes it's a cheap fix, which I think I'm being very fair about.

But you said it is out of the first year warranty period, right? So while a stand-up outfit would have fixed it anyway, CW is technically correct in denying coverage, even if it may have been a defective product in the first place. About what I would expect from CW, but that sort of letter-of-the-law attitude seems common nowadays.

IMHO when we make purchases of this type, certain obligations are the responceability of the buyer. The same goes for the seller to insure he sold a safe and properly assembled unit.
Checking proper torque on lug nuts as well as other major main structure should be done before each use.
Same as we are required on our RV's and personal vehicles.
Having said that anyone but CW would have more than likely at least participated in some form of assistance. Splitting the cost, or doing the work at warranty cost etc. But as many have stated this is CW and their reputation procedes them.

Go to the GS or CW site and find a link to post a message to the president. he is making a big deal out them doing what is right.

Trying to deal with local CW is a waste of time. Try the complaint number in Bolling Green, 1-800-626-6189. Worked the last time I called but won't promise it is still good.

After talking with the general manager, he called back to say all repairs would be taken care of. After all, his own employees said they messed up the assembly of the tow dolly.

But what is irritating is having to go up the food chain to get them to do what is right.
