campingworld.ca - beware canadians - duty taxes

I bought two sewer hose holder on campingworld.ca

This is a complete fraud. They are not in Canada. It is the first time I see a company do that.

The item was shipped from USA. So at the postal office they charged me 36$Can of duty taxes.

When we go on amazon.ca, the products are in Canada. But on amazon.com they are in usa.

Campingworld.ca are not in Canada but they don't tell you.

Beware, this is a complete fraud. Don't buy at campingworld. I went at their store last year but now it is over for me.

Thanks for the heads-up, as I was all set to order their foldaway coffee table from campingworld.ca
So much for free trade between our countries.
I have ordered online from US stores before and ask that they send parts or whatever via USPS rather than the standard UPS. UPS wants to charge an additional $35 + for a customs brokerage fee on everything.
I guess it's just one more reason to shop at home :(

There is a loooong thread on this subject. Basically it's not camping world charging you, it's the freight company, namely UPS that tacks on their duty and taxes. It's UPS that are the fraudsters.
I am fortunate that I live near the U.S. Border and so have ALL my US purchases shipped (free shipping) to a freight forwarding company, drive across and pay them $4 and bring my stuff home. Sometimes I have to pay at the border and sometimes nothing.

Only thing that is in Canada may be the website. However even the servers could be in the US.

Was the price quoted in Cdn dollars?

Carl, that is not a fraude, you just have to buy from Canada, that's it that's all...
If you have a friend that has a cottage or a boat in the USA close to Quebec province, why not ship to his place and ask him to bring your stuff over to QC when he comes backs often !

On my very first trip to Alaska, I found oatmeal cookies in Canada which I learned to crave. While in Canada and Alaska I made sure to stock up in our motorhome.


Back in the states I assumed it would be easy to buy those cookies online. Isn't everything?


Just now, I went online to test out the tremendous cost of getting a box of cookies sent to my house in NY. Cookies cost $3.89 for a 350g box and the UPS charge $17.90. $21.79 for a box of cookies and it was the same years ago.

No it was in US$. But still since it is .ca and they don't tell you, this is a pure fraud.

Listen, I have a eBay account with 800 ratings. I bought more than 800 products from the USA. So I am used to pay for duty taxes.

I almost buy everything except food from the Internet. I am a computer engineer. This is the first time I see a web site with a .ca address that sell products out of Canada. And they don't tell you so your ARE NOT EXPECTING DUTY TAXES.

This is a pure fraud. They don't tell you that your are not shopping in Canada.

You can have anything shipped to a UPS Store in USA near the Canadian border at you name. UPS store will charge you 5$ per week per package.

But when you are on a .ca address you don't expect the product to come from a different country so you will not use a forwarding address anyway since they fraud you.

The product would have been cheaper for me in Canada. I shopped on amazon.ca, ebay and campingworld.ca. Campingworld.ca was the cheapeast in my computations so I bought there. But after the duty taxes I was not expecting it appeared to be the most expensive of the three website.

If you want to buy Sewer Hose Holder, amazon.ca is the cheapest for Canadians.

I had no idea they had a .ca web site and that is indeed very sketchy if not illegal! I have spend thousands of dollars this year with them but I am sure that I saved plenty in shipping and savings on the product, despite the fact that I sometimes had to deal with the UPS crooks!
I have complained plenty to the Campingworld folks about this fact but I don't think they're hearing us, maybe they have stock in UPS.????

Anyway even when there was issues and I had to send something back no trouble getting FULL refunds including return shipping.

But I do have to pay tax on most items I buy when do arrive.
