I don't think state parks will be impacted, will they? Not part of Federal Govt.

We are just finishing up a volunteer assignment at a national fish hatchery. We have been told that if closedown occurs we can stay here if we like even after our contracted time is over. Nice people nice place. But we won't be allowed to do any work😎.

Terry, that's interesting. We're starting a volunteer position at a National Wildlife Refuge on Oct 21st. The manager told me today that if there is a shutdown over that time we would not be allowed to come in to the campground and any volunteers already there would have 48 hours to leave. I think fish hatcheries like NWR's come under US Fish and Wildlife Service, so local managers may have some latitude.

Just make sure you've landed everything in your sector before you leave...

I didn't think Air Traffic Control was affected. (At least that's what I read!)

I am too old to be allowed control of a mic. For that last few years I have performed staff duties so no one need fear loss of service based on my absence. LOL

I bought a new road bicycle Saturday and just got called that it is set up. Tomorrow I expect to take advantage of a nice October day, put on 50-60 miles on my bike and call it a good day. I"ll get into the bike shop early, put it on a training stand to fine tune the saddle and handle bar positions and peddle away.

If I am lucky congress will take actions to get it done Tuesday and I get day off with pay. That has happened in the past for these budget wars when something finally gets passed.

58 days till I am free of this rat race.

I read that anyone who is in a US run campground and the shut down occurs, will have 48 hours to relocate. I assume that is the norm but as was stated, there may be local differences based on individual circumstances.

We are volunteering at a US Fish and Wildlife services site in NE Louisiana. We have been told to stay where we are and if the funding does not go through, leave the gates locked tomorrow. This will sure make some of the sportsmen in this area might unhappy as tomorrow is the opening day of deer season for archery here.[ moderator edit ]

We were in a federal CG when there was a close call to a shutdown. The rangers came around the day before and told us that if it happened, we would have to be out by midnight - no exceptions. Maybe it does depend on where you are staying.

We were Mammoth Caves NP. this summer where about 1/2 the cave tours were not offered this summer because of the Sequester. My DW suggested that we go back in 14'. I said it doesn't make sense to plan anything to do with the Government until you know it would be funded. Who knows, part of the deal may be made to downsize the National Parks. Maybe mothball some...

In '96 it was a 21 day shutdown. I played a lot of golf during that time. When it was resolved I was paid for all 21 days. That to me is wrong.

Now this is an assumption on my part, but if the RV parks still have key personnel management staying in the park then it may be that the allow those that are there to stay, but no one cane come in.

It is against Federal law to have someone work and not get paid. Since they do not know if there will be money to pay employees they put them on furlough because by law there is no money to pay them. Simple Simon says.

I wonder if they ever computed 21 days of all Federal Employees, including our most esteemed, cost the Government in lost work, but still paid. Not enough to pay off the national debt but still a good chunk of money.

I enjoyed my 21 day vacation. There have been 5 shutdowns since that time, including that one in '96.
