Can a extra grey tank be added?
I've been shopping for my next RV. I'll be doing a lot of boon docking and would like a large (60 gal. plus) grey tank. So far, it seems that every time I find a floor plan I like, I find it has a smallish grey tank. I've looked at units that have from 29 gal. to 84 gal.
I know about most of the "tricks" like dumping the dish water down the toilet, setting the dump valves to "equalize" and just dumping the grey water out on the ground. However, it seems the only proper solution is to have a larger grey tank.
My choices in floor plans would be much larger if I could add another tank.
Any experience with this.

Have you considered a black/gray tank, or even a 55 gal plastic barrel, that you can carry in the back of the truck. Fill it using a portable macerator pump and take it away.

That only works with a trailer and would still use a bunch of power to transfer the water.
I would think adding a gray tank would be doable if there is adequate real estate available to weld in the supports. It may not be possible to position it near the axles so you would have to decide if it was worth the chance that it would adversely affect tongue weight. Again assuming you have a trailer.
Mounting it and plumbing it in should not be that difficult. Finding room may be. May be even more difficult finding room with a motor home. Note that the extra weight of a full tank may count against your cargo capacity.

I'm shopping for a travel trailer as I'll be putting a motorcycle in the truck bed.

Can a gray tank be added? Two answers depending on how you add
1: Depends on the construction of the RV is there room to add it?
2: Blue-Boy (Barker I think) waste totes can be added to any RV they come in assorted sizes starting at 5 Gallons, 10 and 15 (All luggable) I had a 10 modified so I could tow it. the 15 and I think 20 you can buy a towing adapter (fork like thing) I modified the fork to tow the 10
THey make 30,40 and larger gallon.
NOTE: you can use it to empty the blach and haul it to the dump station as well. Drop the tow adapter on your hitch ball or even on a hitch ball on a golf car and off to the dump you go.

I'd be extremely concerned about being over weight unless your just going a short distance to the Dump station.
Water is heavy at 8.4 lbs per gal. 50 gal is 420 lbs. Plus the tank plus any pumps and fittings. 500 total?

You have a couple of issues. First, where is all the fresh water going to come from that you're going to put into your grey tanks. Second, you're adding a lot of weight that most trailers aren't designed to carry, especially when you depart with everything full.
Personally, I think you're better off buying the floorplan you like and deal with the grey water like everyone else, haul it out.

Good advice but I can't think of any good reason to travel with a grey tank even close to full. Just me, but I never do.

Paper plates and plastic utensils, gray water tote
You should be able to find work arounds for your gray water needs.
I have 2 gray tanks 40 for shower and wash basin; 20 for kitchen. I can make it work.

Thanks for all the replies.
I'm looking at adding 30 gallons. With the exception of one, all the trailers I've considered would put me at or above 60 gallons grey tank with an extra 30 gallons. So, the added weight would probably be under 300 lbs. Trailers I've looked at have a carrying capacity from 2000 to 3,400 lbs. I would think, if the new tank was placed properly, that weight wouldn't be an issue.
Blue Boys? Most of the campsites we're interested in don't have dump stations, or for that matter, any hookups.
Dexters, you've got the 60 gallons I'm looking for. So far, the trailer at the top of our list is the Timber Ridge 24RLS. However, according to ORV specs., unlike your trailer, the 24RLS only has a single 40 gallon tank.
Fresh water? There are so many ways to increase fresh water supply that I haven't worried about that. I can put a bladder somewhere in the unit. I can add, at least, 4 seven gallon containers in the pickup bed around the motorcycle. I would think adding another permanent fresh water tank in the trailer somewhere would be eminently doable.
So far, the Denali 2462RKS has the best small trailer tankage. 52 fresh, 84 grey, and 42 black. However, as mentioned above, the Timber Ridge 24RLS is our favorite. (At this point, it's the only one the wife will consider.)
We are experienced wilderness campers and don't use a lot of water. Our last RV, a Lazy Daze class C had pretty small tanks. We use about 8 gals a day when being comfortable. We can cut that in half when the need to conserve occurs. However, our longest trip was 1 month and we are now considering 3/4 months in the winter out of the Northern Michigan cold. I think a little more comfort will be in order.
Thanks for all the replies. It would appear that adding a tank would be doable, but, probably not advisable.

I can see that 40gal limit being a problem. I'm single and when I boondock I have to watch that 20 gallon tank. I do my best to dump the kitchen water in the 40 gal tank.

Instead of adding I dropped all the original tanks and installed tanks that are 2-3 times as big and insulated with 2" of XPS foam around each.
Also changed the plumbing so shower (only) water can be diverted to either the G or B tanks and outside.
