Just wondering if a slide could come out while traveling. Just wondering if anyone have heard of this happening and causing an accident like the one on I79 at Sutton WV this afternoon.

Some folks report slides creeping out a few inches, but I have not heard one fully deploy.

That would be nuts. Slides do have power during travel...so its not improbable. Someone or something would have to actuate the control to deploy the slides.

It can happen, which is why many units have either automatic or manual lock arms, which should prevent it. Most of the cases I've read about happen when the lock arms aren't used. D'oh.

I don't know that there are any MH that will electrically deploy the slides if the engine is running. I know my MH won't. I have heard of slides creeping out a couple of inches but never heard of one fully deploy. Slide locks will ease your mind and prevent slide movement.

Yes some units come with a rod to put behind them to make sure it can't . Mine has slide locks anythings possible with these things.

on mine the engine must be running for the electric slides to be moved, also the parking brake must be set. However, one can drive away with the parking brake set (I know, and the burning small is not good...).

Newmar motorhomes are not supposed the operate if the key is on, however, the slides can and will deploy with the engine running. It happened to me driving up from the Keys. I have manual slide locks which kept the bedroom curb slide from completely deploying. After a trip to the dealer and calls to the factory, we all drew a blank. About 8 months later it did it again as I was exiting our enclosed storage unit. Luckily the DW saw it and got me stopped. As it turned out, the control module had a short at one of the wiring connectors. Newmar replaced the module ( out of warranty) and I have not had another problem. Thank goodness for slide locks.

On my coach, if the coach is not leveled to the coaches satisfaction (believe me it must be VERY close to level) the slide mechanism is disabled. Plus it has auto locking arms on the slides.

I guess it depends on the particular manufacturer, and I suppose where the rig falls from low end to high end for that manufacturer. The higher end, the more precautions in place on the rig.

Well if you're reporting an accident then I guess it can.

We have never had the problem but I always lock our slides before we move out.

This was a travel trailer. I was under mine on Sunday spraying WD40 on tracks and gears. I did not see anything to lock the slide or keep it from coming out.

This is just one of the minor things that cause some RVs to cost more than others.

By the way, WD40 may not be the best choice as it's oil based and will dry up and collect dirt and debris. You might want to consider a silicone lubricant. It will last much longer and not attract so much dirt.
