Can propane tee to feed BBQ be converted to extend stay?

I noticed on my tank when I was replacing the regulator that it came with a tee that feeds a BBQ line. I really rather have an extend a stay set up. I hate retiring a perfectly good unit and buying another if I don’t have to.

Is there a way to convert it to an innie instead of an outtie? Having a hard time wrapping my head around the different fittings.

Can you post a pic? Is it before or after your regulator? My guess is whatever you attach to it opens the valve. The propane will flow from the higher pressure to the lower pressure side. So BBQ one way, Extend-a-stay the other.
uneducated guess so please get more advice.

Fair amount of comment about this on this forum--key is not having two regulators on the line feeding the BBQ. Many BBQs have built-in regulators so feed line from tank must be connected on hi-pressure side of coach main regulator. If BBQ regulator can be removed, you need low pressure feed from after the main regulator on coach. Like you, I had a really hard time finding all the right connects and hoses--needed to run my BBQ with built-in regulator and my portable fire-place without regulator. Typical parts at CW or average propane shop aren't much help...so built the parts my self with additional shut-off valve for more control/safety.....

Here's a nice video on doing exactly what you asked about.

I think he wants to feed LP into the tee, not hook a BBQ to it.

The tee for a BBQ is [usually] downstream form the RV's regulator, so any external LP bottle feeding into it would have to have its own regulator or the RV system would be over-pressure. The think I don't know is whether that existing tee has a inward-feed check valve in it or not. It might even depend on the brand of the tee. It does have a valve that prevents gas from escaping when no hose is attached, but that would be satisfied when you connect it up.

Without being able to see what he has, I would be afraid to offer any advice as with a 50/50 change of being right, the answer has a 75% probability of being wrong.

Best answer from me would be to search youtube for videos, and / or ask somebody who knows the systems and can see what you actually have.

I have a connection after the regulator on my coach and it hooks into my home LP line after the regulator on the big tank. My coach is running off that line.

Yep, need a pic of what you have in order to get a useful answer. Who the heck knows what an "innie" and "outie" refer to.

Here is a pic. I hate to buy an extend a stay if I can convert this to feed into the system from a 20lb portable tank like an extend a stay.

Hard to see what that connection is with the plug still in it/on it. Is it the same as the top of a 1 Lb portable propane bottle?

It’s one of these tees. It feeds a grill but would like to use to extend a stay.

EDIT to add: I’m going to look at it closer tomorrow. I wonder if the fitting twists off.

If you have the included hose then you can use this to attach to a portable tank:

I don’t bought it used. I didn’t realize what was connected to the propane line until I replaced the regulator on the tank. I will check the fireplac store and see what they can create.
