Can someone explain to me why propane is $3.67 a gallon in CA?

I've called around to many places and this is the average price around me. I have read thread after thread of propane being $1.99 or less in other states and I have no idea why it's almost double here.

I haven't seen it for $1.99 in quite awhile. Just paid $3.25 in Alabama.

I'm currently in Florida and just paid $3.79/Gal; which is a real deal - - to have it filled by mobile tanker truck they are charging $6.50/gal. Needless to say I purchased a portable tank for my MH and use that.

Maybe you're looking at old threads!

I filled a tank in Aurora Washington a couple of weeks ago and propane was $3.79 a gallon...

And according to This site, it hasn't budged from that price since.

If you get out of the big towns, there are fewer taxes. Just drove by a propane place East of Lancaster, CA yesterday and their sign said $1.99/gallon (that probably doesn't include the taxes, but they are probably much lower then in big towns) . In Rosamond, I believe it's $2.45/gallon at the supplier on the Sierra Highway, including taxes.

1) Its because California doesnt want people grilling out ruining the O-zone and they figure raising the price of propane will curb its use.

2) Its because the CA propane refinery had to switch to winter blend.

3) A new tax on propane was introduced in the house and although it hasnt passed vendors are raising prices out of speculation.

4) The government is using extreemly high quantities of propane in the production of a secret alloy metal that will be used in the next generation of fighter jets that is bulet proof and only 1/8" thick.

OKAY to be honest I have no idea but pick which ever one makes you feel better. Its kinda like asking why Diesel is higher than gas when it takes less to refine it.
But hey maybe some of you have some better excuses fictional or not.

It was $3.50 this morning here in Alaska. Will be happy when we take a trip through Canada as it is usually a little less expensive there.
