Can't find my water filter.

I feel like a complete idiot. I need to replace the water filter in my 1999 Winnebago Chieftain but simply can't find it and the owners manual is of little help. Of course I see the small one under the sink for the "fountain" faucet on the sink, but I simply can't find the main one.

Sure wish they had the option to post anonymously, it embarrassing. Sometimes the simplest things escape me.

Umm, are you sure it has a main filter? Have you changed it before?

Only suggestion I have is look in the compartment with other water connections. It might be behind a control panel or facia that has other valves or connections on it.

Don't be embarrassed Joseph - there are absolutely no need for you to be embarrassed at all. This is to most friendly forum and helpful forum "in cyberspace". I have asked a very large number of questions where the answer I am sure seems obvious to a lot of seasoned RVers, and never once have anyone made me feel embarrassed (except for close friends who would take the opportunity to laugh at me any way)

I also strongly suspect that there are no "main filter" in your RV. Our 2007 Monaco Diplomat didn't come with one, and I think only the really "high end RV's" has one that is factory installed. If you think you need one, there are a variety of filter options that are installed outside your RV.

Okay, that would explain it. I just bought an external filter so I should be good.

I just did a quick skim of all 1999 Chieftain plumbing diagrams, the only filter shown is the one under the sink. None show a filter on water line in or the water tank.

Thanks. I guess I can't fault the owner's manual for not revealing its location. ;-)
