Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I haven't had any problems with my Carefree manual awning! Most of the time when awnings don't completely close it's because the supports don't line up properly so they lock into the receiving channels. Could that be the problem?

Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Awning model? Year?

My '03 chach came with a power OneTouch patio awing. It had a little trouble starting to close sometimes, and had other issues over the years. The OneTouch arms were damaged by wind and replaced by an Eclipse arms kit in 2010. The Eclipse works great.

Our last MH had a CareFree Eclipse. The only trouble we had was the roller cup stripped out. The new ones have two drive lands that increase bearing area. I could have swapped the other end cup with the drive cup, but I didn't know it at the time and could have saved buying the whole motor/cup assembly. $$

My rig came with a One-Touch Awning. Over time the motor seemed weak both opening and closing. I ultimately tried disconnecting and connecting the bayonet type twist lock connector on the side of the coach which seemed to help. The design allows for only a small area of contact for the power to pass through and gets corroded over time. Carefree does not offer a replacement and a tech told me they just hard wire the awning power now.

The last time I had a problem I decided to eliminate the internal portion of the connector and use wire butt connectors. I removed both pieces of the connector, drilled out the guts to allow wires to pass through, attached the butt connectors to all 4 wires and then reinstalled the pieces, connected the wires and reinstalled the housing. To seal I used some rubber tape and O-ring so that when the housing was pushed together and twisted it compressed the tape and the O-ring to seal the wires. That was about 2 years ago and still works great.

Have a Carefree on my new rig. I'm hoping that it is truly "Carefree". I guess only time will tell.
