I am thinking about covering my steps with carpet to help prevent tracking dirt in to the coach.

I have 2 concerns;
1) Does the extra thickness of the carpet cause any issues when the steps retract and stack tightly on top of each other
2) Seems like the carpet could trap moisture and cause the steps to rust

Any thoughts from those that have carpet on their steps would be appreciated.

Thanks

Although many people use them, we took ours off because the step was too slippery when wet.
We use a RV door mat and wipe our feet on it as we go in. It's made of plastic with bristles on it. It rolls up and fits in a carrying case that came with it.

On our previous MH we used the carpet covers purchased from Camping World. Had them on for 5 years with no problem. The carpet never affected the operation of the steps. The steps never showed any sign of weakness from rust. On our current MH we had carpet step covers made that snap onto the top of the step so they can be removed. I take them off when we are on the road but leave them on when parked. Two years later and they still work like a charm. No evidence of rust on the steps except underneath - current covers only cover the top of each step. I have decided to spray the steps with a truck bedliner type of spray after removing the rust. Step only, nothing else after seeing someone else do that.
