Carport size?
About to pick up a new to me Gulfstream 6254. 26' long, 8' wide, 11' 6" tall. What size carport should i get? This is just a cheap-o carport like in the pic. I'm debating on 10, 11, or 12ft sides and 12, 14, or 16ft width. I would think 11' legs would clear the A/C on the roof due to the shape of the carport. Any help would be great!

Go as big as your space will allow. You will need to move around coach plus may want to access storage areas.
And this may not be your forever coach

Have you considered that you may want to be able to work on the roof without pulling out of the port? I would go to at least 12' walls for that reason. Adding a foot or two in height won't cost that much now, but would later. I would also run the sides down low enough to protect from blown in wind.
One other thing to think about is that when you use the roof like shown that has the ridged part running the length, rather than vertically, it will develop leaks at any seams in the sheets of material if they don't run the full length of your port. Vertically placed ridge material will cost more but also last much longer.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
Congrats on the new rig! Keep her between the ditches!
I would suggest building the carport for the largest rig you think you may buy in the future, not what you're getting now!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
Merry Christmas!

I have one similar to the one pictured for my 34 1/2' Toy Hauler. I have a 12' tall legs by 12' wide by 36' long carport, as I was somewhat limited on space for width trying to stay off of the easement/roadway that runs beside it in our little subdivision. Given the choice, I would have gone wider. My T.H. is 12'6" height and there is sufficient height above it, but not enough to stand on the roof. Width is pretty tight, but I really didn't have a choice because of the easement/right of way next to it. The length that I have is the longest that Metal Max has available with continuous horizontal sheets. Any longer and they would have to have been vertical....which as stated is more expensive.
As far as your situation, the 11' height on the legs should give you room at the top with zero issues....except for it you want to be able to stand upright on the roof of the M.H. As far as width, I would go as wide as you can afford to go. I can open both of my slides....partially, but not fully open, and that would be nice to be able to do. I also had them bring one more sheet down the side to help with sun/UV protection. But as narrow as my carport is (for reasons explained above), I cannot get either the front or rear entry doors completely open either. I can still get in fairly easy, just can't get the doors completely open. So, I hope this helps you in figuring out what size you need.

Our RV port is 20'x41'. Side posts are 10' but with the 20' width, the roof peak is about 13'10". Good enough for our rig's 13'2" height but I have to be sure to back in close to center. This works well for us. Allows me to walk around the rig with the slides out as well as be able to open the awning to dry if it was rolled up in the rain.
The RV port started out as 20'x31' until we bought a bigger rig and had to have the port folks come back out and add 10' to the length. Cost almost 50% of the original port just to get the extra 10'.
Other than the length issue, I wouldn't have done much of anything different. I had an extra 5' of side panel installed during construction to cut down potential sun damage to the rig. If I was to have a narrower port, I would definitely have side posts of at least 11'.
We've had no problem with leaks with the horizontal ribs but depending on the weather, condensation on the underside of the metal roof makes it rain occasionally. That would happen with any uninsulated metal roof. The outside of the roof will get dirty and, in our neck of the woods, will accumulate some mildew. A pressure washer takes care of that but it's not a pleasant job.
I don't think you mentioned what kind of base you're planning. We had several inches of compacted fill brought in and then covered that with a few inches of #57 gravel. That has served us well for the past 16 years.

thanks for all the replies! pretty sure i'll end up with an 18x31x12, but just wanted to ask for some real world insight. Wasn't sure if i needed to go that big. Plan to do gravel/recycled concrete as a base. Not sure what i'll put under the tires yet. i'll research that more. Dont want to do concrete floor because i dont want anything permanent as of yet. Again, thanks for the help! Can't wait to get our RV and go on some adventures!

We used crush-'n-run for base...and for the entire drive to the street.
City gave us a new apron as it's is on adjoining lot.
I widened it 20 more feet.
I wish we had a larger barn. We started with a 20 x 40 to house our 34 foot class "A"
Then bought a 44 foot TH...and lengthened the barn to 50 feet.
I wish now I had gone all-the-way...75 foot length so I could also store vehicles in there as well. Major failure to plan ahead. We ran our own 220vac/50amp wiring. No water other than a hose. It's working for us but meanwhile my loved F150 is out in the weather. Darn! Barn is 12' side, 15' center. Even with slides out still can't extend awning. I guess there has to be a limit somewhere!

We started with a 28' RV with no slides and a 30' x 12' storage. Then we got a 37' RV with slides - enlarged to accommodate it. Now have a 40' with slides - enlarged again - to 42' x 15'... Now at max for the availabke space - no more room to enlarge. Wish I would have allowed room for bigger way back when. Hindsight is 20/20. If I had do over from the beginning I would have made room and errected 50' x 20', at least.
As for height. 12' legs and don't enclose the top of the ends.
Sides. Bring the sides down at least 4' for additional protection.

If you want to fit the trailer in it the 11 has about another foot at the sides. Maybe 12.6 at the center. Sometimes the sides will have a brace to the roof, depending upon brand for wind strength and snow load. If you buy a 11 and it has extra bracing .... ooops! I would call and ask before u order. Brands are different.

I went big. 14w x 46 L. 12 Legs will give 13 sides with 15.5 peak.
