My turn. I carry an unmounted 6 year old spare in my basement. I believe it will get me to the next town if need be. I will have Coach Net mount it for me and I will be on my way. I used to have a spare with rim on previous MH and had two flats . Both were in places where a replacement was not available. Both times I was on my way in less than one hour. I don't care to be towed or to wait on the side of the road for hours or worse overnight waiting for some else to arrive with a replacement.

I also carry a spare tire. I've carried one now for several years and actually have never found a use for it. It takes way too much room that could be used for many other things and of course there was a significant investment involved getting the spare tire. Oh my, if I could just return to those days of a 32 inch waist and not be carried this spare tire around.

I'm new to RVing, but I have driven tractor trailers for over thirty years. In an 18 wheeler I was required by law to carry a spare tire. That said, I would not travel without a spare required or not. Keep a good 12 ton hydraulic jack in a compartment (they are small) and if possible mount the spare in the frame rails so not to use valuable compartment space. Even if you are not capable of changing the tire yourself, you will have everything that is needed for someone who can. Don't forget to check the spare before any trips or at least a couple times per year. A spare with no air won't help you much.
