I have my CB on 19 all the time when traveling the interstate highways. It's not as popular as in the years past but the CB has still warned me of road issues up ahead before I get there which is important when driving a heavy RV. I consider it just another tool for traveling along with the GPS.

Ham radio.
Monitor 146.52 MHz.
Much more limited number of people but better quality both electronic and people using it.

Got caught in traffic jams on the way to and from watching the eclipse.
Made a call both times and got information.
One saved us by suggesting an alternate route.
The other gave us bad news that there was no way out of our problem.

I still use a CB, scans automatically channels I can select. Have it set to scan 19 and 13 (13 being for RV's though I have never had a chat on 13 to date).

My wife tolerated it, but when it saved us from being in a huge 10 mile backup by taking an alternate route, she is more tolerant of it now.

CB also has automatic NOAA weather alerts, helps with high wind etc. alerts.

I don’t have ours on all the time. I mostly use it when traffic is backing up or to check the weather. Other times I’ll hail other rv’s on the road, about 20% answer.

I use Waze on my phone and get real time reports of traffic, stalled vehicles, road gators and police activity as well as detours and construction. Fast, simple and reliable and it happens seamlessly through the GPS. Also tells me the speed limit of the road I am on.

I got turned off CB about 20 years ago because of all the profanity. Haven't missed it yet.

With today’s technology you can use your cell phone for traffic problems without lessoning to the trash talk. I had one on previous MH kids thought it was funny listing to truckers.

Turn it on when we start rolling and turn it off when we arrive. Some evenings tune into NOAA. Also have VHF, UHF and HF. And cellulars.
