Cell phone carriers

Even though we are not full timers we do travel 2-5 months per year. We have Verizon as our carrier and have been very happy with the service. Our issue is the cost keeps increasing and we were wondering if anyone else has any other suggestions.

Tracphone. You have a choice of buying a phone using AT&T, or Verzion towers. My unlimited voice and text plan is $45/mo. No contract.

Consumer cellular is another that has good rates and great customer service. Soon as our contract expires we're switching.

Bought a Motorola moto g and a tracfone sim card. $35 gets me 750 minutes/1000texts & 1 GB data for 60 days. Every time you add it extends your time.

I moved to Metro PCS on the T Mobile network two months ago. Unlimited voice and text on two pbones, 6gb data / hotspot on one and unlimited data / 8gb hotspot on the other. $85/month with no contract. Two samsung phones - one free, the other just $30. So far working well.

You get what you pay for. Verizon has the best network and coverage. We just went through evaluating our options and for what we do Verizon was the best. We are full-timers and using Verizon we have never been without a signal, be it in the middle of the desert or up in the mountains. If you frequent the same more metropolitan areas, then the other carriers may be an option.

We had a Tracfone as our 2nd phone, but where we were for the past 4 months, it had no signal or 1 bar if you walked around for a while. We added an old 3G phone to our Verizon plan and had 3-4 bars all the time.

We considered AT&T and their plans sounded similar to those that Verizon provided, but when you looked at the details there were some differences. One of the big ones for us was the use of a portable hotspot. Verizon allowed the hotspot to use the shared data in the plan, AT&T did not. You have to have a separate plan for the hotspot which then made AT&T more expensive.

Like we said, this is what worked best for us. You want to investigate what will work best for your situation before signing up!

Getting enough internet data is the real challenge. Sprint and T-mobile has unlimited data plans for $70 but coverage is mostly around the big cities. Verizon & ATT are everywhere but do not offer unlimited data. Even 20 GB data will run out in no time.

Ok how about a plan with High or unlimited data that you can do on a month to month basis as we would need it for 3 months or so twice a year. The rest of the time we live out of the country and do not need a US mobile service.
???

We have just ordered our 2nd Straight Talk phone. Straight Talk/Walmart prices, using Verizon Network with no contract.

Straight Talk not sexy like Verizon, AT&T, T Mobil but at my age...;~)

I was looking at changing from Verizon to Straight Talk, but having to pay some $650 for a phone upfront kind of would hurt! But then it would save maybe $60 a month too.
Just went and looked at my account, my Verizon contract is up late Dec then I can buy a SIM card from Straight Talk and transfer my service. Worth another look then. My Samsung Galaxy S5 is still good phone.

As usual the folks on this sight are filled with info, thanks to all and we are trying to analyze it all. I did fail to note that we have an iphone AND an ipad if this changes any of anyone's answers. Thank you all again.

We have Verizon and are rarely without service. They now offer rollover on data. Since I can survive on 2 GB a month for most of the year, I should have enough roll over data the few months that I do need to go over. I did have the Verizon Jet Pack, but that is expensive. The mobile hotspot works great.

It seems your pointed in the right direction but if you get a chance check out this website https://www.whistleout.com/CellPhones You can select which network you want to be on and other parameters and it will tell you all the deals and if you can bring your phone. I found that I could save over $100/mo on my At&t Family plan by switching to their subsidiary Cricket and bring all my phones. For those with tablets a different tab takes you a data plan comparison page.

To see who is operating on which network this webpage is helpful https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...work_operators

That wikipedia link has some errors. T-mobile/Straight talk offers phones that use AT&T, Verzion, Sprint; depending on the phone you purchase. At least that's what the phone packaging states. Our Samsung works on Verzion network.
