Check your specs on the generator. Most all I have looked at are rated a lot lower wattage when running propane. They just do not put out as much. We looked a t dual fuel, but wanted access at full wattage when needed, so we knew we would alway run on gas.
We did buy the Champion 4000 surge/3500 run inverter generator and are happy with it.

Thanks...I simply felt that for about the same money I would have an option IF I was out of gasoline but had propane or vice-versa. I did NOT buy it for the MH as it has one on-board. I was simply sharing for others to perhaps consider. Apparently some folks think they're too loud but if you're boon-docking it will work...typically we are at a full-service site and do not have the generator on. Only when we're driving or such on our way do we use it...
All's happy and good in IRV2....

OK folks, all great thoughts so far and I really appreciate them! I am now leaning more toward the inverter type. Dose anyone have any thought about the
Champion Digital Hybrid model 100302? It is a open cage inverter type, 4000 peak and 3500 running gas genny. and I'm finding them for around $650 anybody ever use or hear anything about these ?

I have a champion 3100 inverter generator. Operates one air conditioner. Quiet, well made starts easy. Paid $599 via Costco a few years ago.

X2 this is the way to go. Keep your neighbors happy. Like Big John told me "Don't let common courtesy become uncommon". YMMV

After lots of searching, that is the one I purchased. Have not had a chance to use it yet, but have heard nothing but good things from friends. I got mine at Home Depot online, shipped free to store.

Champion is a mixed bag.. When Champion first came out with INVERTER generators they had some bad voltage regulators.. Far as I knwo they fixed that a few years back so Champion INVERTER generators are for the most part somewhere between OK and Very good.. Major problem with them is country of manufacturer If you need parts. it is a very slow boat.
Champion also makes "Contractor" type open frame generators with a motor that runs at 3600 RPM... These should ship with earplugs. They are LOUD compared to the "i'" models.
And while I've never put a Champion on a scope.. and I have had good luck with other contractor models.... It is a risk, and I'd not wish to take it. At least not without some protective devices (As it turns out I have them)

I totally understand "inverter" type gennys,,, quiet, less fuel,,, But we cannot afford one "right now"... I have a LOUD B&S 4K,,, and a LOUD Champion 7.5K.... I WILL run which ever I take with our 5vr as a "emergency / last stand" only.... We do not 'boondock' , which is fine for some,,,, I wouldn't mind it some day,,,, but for now, we will use what we have to survive..... we camp with full hookups,,, so if you hear our genny,,,, we are good..... you,,, maybe not....

If you camp with full hookups why would you need to run your genny?

I'll second that. Those cheap generators are so noisy!

SO Im told the Champion units have less than 5%THD, is that a good thing ? will it do OK?

My advice would be to buy a Honda or Yamaha 'inverter' 2000 watt gen. They will even run your AC if you add a 'Micro-air' easy start to your AC unit.
Quiet and so economical they pay for themselves in no time.

The $400 generators are not allowed.

I have yet to see anyone in an NPS campground actually enforce this. They won't unless they get a complaint.
