I've been looking at the unit in the link below. It appears to be able to deal with the most common issue that members have posted here. Anyone have any thoughts on this unit? The price is certainly right compared to the others I've seen.

Progressive Industries Smart Surge 50 Amp - $99.48

Wore out,

Your better off stepping up to the PT50C which constantly monitors both lines 1 and 2 for 'low' and 'high' voltages. I don't see where the unit you are looking at does that. Low voltage is the most likely thing you will encounter and can also damage expensive equipment (AC units being one). We have had high volatage a couple of times and once a miswired outlet with 240 volts that our PT50C stopped. But low voltage is by far the most common.

EMS-HW50C
this is what I have, its hard wired in , its a bit more money. but has more features I like, like a timed delay of power is interrupted, refusal to engage if pedestal power is not right,

i would assume the one you mentioned is good to.
best answer is read them all and decide based on your expected use and protection, and price you are willingly to pay
I can say I have had this unit in two rv's, and its just about 6 years old.
no problems

Thanks Bob, Powerboatr. Just did some more reading and you are correct. The unit I'm looking at does everything but monitor for High & Low voltage. I guess I need to step up a bit. I was hoping I had found that elusive RV bargain

Unfortunately any "Bargain RV Parts" I have ever had the opportunity to purchase were worth "significantly less" that the purchase price !
Old saying... " Joy of cheap price quickly killed by poor performance" reigns true especially in today's RV's ! The technology and electronic wizardry of today's RV would make me wonder why in the holy grail manufacturers do not install these devices at the factory ! Ever gone to a campground and hooked up without a water pressure regulator, water filter, electrical surge and hi/low voltage monitor/protector ??? If so, you are playing Russian Roulette !!! Hard to believe the makers dont understand the end uses or is it there is an unspoken agreement to help boost sales of these items in the AfterMarket Industry ??????

Gotta love a Vet for all these freedoms !

this will not protect your rv for the problem I had
you really need to protect your rv after the power
cord goes into your rv

Hard wired will provide the most protection. RVupgrades has the 50 amp model for 285. Best deal I found online.

Here's a 30 amp that detects for faulty power and is a basic surge guard.

Surge Protector Circuit Analyzer 30 Amp

Not a clue who makes it.

I will add the hard wired one has a great panel inside the coach
it indicates both lines a/c voltage and scrolls through amps being used on each leg as well.
and will list faults if they persist

i use the amp draw feature ALOT.

Hi Mike,

I am afraid not. Your surge protector can only protect from what is before it.

**A protector on the power pedestal will detect what is coming out of that pedestal but not what is behind the protector.

**A protector on your coach will protect what is coming from the power pedestal and the power cord from it to your coach.

While the latter is more expensive, it will give you more protection.

Sheila

True story.... Last spring I was in a campground and a couple pulled in in a brand new upper class 5er.. They plugged in and ... NO POWER, I mean not a bit.

Well we began the trouble shooting (I grabbed my meters since he'd left his at home) and power at the pedistal.. Unpluged the cord from the inlet on the trailer.

And the end fell off in my hand. ALL 4 WIRES were loose. AND the cable clamp.

WE spent some time making absolutly sure we hooked it up right (PS he is an electrical engineer, I'm an electronics techinican by training) we did, and he later had words with his dealer.

But the moral is.. GOOD ADVICE. (Check your cords)
