I'm wondering about the pros and cons of different powered fans:

1) The MaxxAir "MaxxFan" (with included remote) seems to be a good choice due to its all-in-one nature (includes a built-in rain shield) and its low-profile when closed (less wind resistance?), however it has only 4 fan settings and uses over 4 amps on its "high" setting.

2) The Fan-Tastic Vent 6600 (with remote) seems to be a good choice since it has an infinite number of speeds on "auto" [or 14 speeds on "manual"] and uses around 3 amps on its highest setting. However, to be rain proof it would require the addition of a MaxxAir Fan/Mate cover that would create a permanently higher profile on the RV(more wind resistance? more tree branch "rubbing"?).

Does anybody have experience with using either or both of these fans? What about their RELIABILITY? Any input/recommendations would be welcome. Neither choice is cheap, but I'm willing to spend the money for the best setup.

I took the Fantastic Fan out of my coach and installed two MaxxAir fans. The Fantastic fans would never open automatically. I installed the new seal kit twice and the fan still had to have my help to open. Also, by the time the rain sensor got wet and closed the top, the floor, in the coach, was also wet.

For me, the MaxxAir fans are exactly what is needed. They can be left open without fear of the coach interior getting wet. If you are worried about the high setting power draw, I have never run my fans on high. They are most always on low. Seldom on medium.

I have looked at the Maxxair fans, and agree that the big advantage is the ability to leave them open and not worry about rain.

I have 3 Fantastic now, and they work very will, even with the annoying rain sensor (up and down up and down--) I set the thermostat, and let it go, and when it rains, it closes, when it gets to hot it will open again. I do wish there was a setting to turn off the dome from the rain sensor. If I needed to replace one, I would go with Fantastic, for the simple reason that they make a good reliable product and their customer service is off the hook excellent. I strongly believe that even if the competitor is a few bucks cheaper, or has another non-critical feature, if the current vendor has been loyal to me, I will always return that loyalty. In today's world it is really hard to find vendors that still focus on the customer, and I think everyone who has dealt with Fantastic Vent will tell you the same story.

I have the fantastic vent 6600 with the hand held remote and love it. The rain sensor does have an on off switch and as previously stated there are about 14 setting for speed. It will also blow in or out. I bought it through ebay from a dealer in TN for $220 shipping included. I wish I bought two.

Our personal choice was to keep our Fantastic Fans but add the MaxxAir FanMate vent hoods over them. The fans are excellent and the service from Fantastic Vent is second to none. We don't have the rain sensor but hen we don't need it either. With the hoods we can leave them open in any normal rain - other than a frog drowning monsoon.

After purchase support was a deciding factor for me. Fantastic is simply fantastic in this department. As stated above, when a company shows its loyalty to their customers, as Fantastic does, I'll always return the gesture. I too, placed the maxx-aire cover over mine so a dome rain sensor is irrelevant.
