Class A Definition

What is the definition of a Class A motor home?

We own what is commonly called s Super C motor home.

Several Class A only motor coach resorts have refused to let us stay there.

I wonder, therefore, what a Class A has that we don't?

Yeah, they don't seem to like the tractor front. You probably have all the bells and whistles that a class A has except for the telltale front. Class A are all integrated in their body style.

You should have just said that you have a class A. What you have is certainly more class A than my micro-class A.

The RVIA defines a Class (Type) A as a coach built on a chassis designed for a motorhome body in which the driving position is part of the coach body. A Class (Yype) C is a motorhome built on a chassis that already has a cab, e.g. van cutaway, chassis cab, or truck, but the body is designed as an RV. Therefore yours is a C rather than an A. A Class B uses a standard van body & chassis that has been modified for Rving.

It's not about price or amenities or styling - just the fundamental construction.

I was told that the "C" in class C was actually an abbreviation for "cutaway" and that class A and B where then derived from that. Who knows for sure?

Here's what I know without any intent of assigning a grade or rank to any type of motorhome:

The earlier class C's were chopped van chassis and generally lower in price than class A's. Some RV parks wanted to restrict entrance to higher price motorhomes so didn't allow class C's. The super C design came somewhat later but is based on medium duty truck chassis rather than "Toterhomes" built on class 8 or "18 wheeler" chassis. While there have been some recent instances of class A only parks now allowing super C's, I'm not sure if they make a distinction between the two varieties of "truck front" motorhomes.

That does remain as a point of amazement for me that these "class A only" resort will allow a 25 year old coach with all kinds of issues, but won't allow a new super C.....

Most of these I am finding are in a HOA with covenant restrictions. It will take time for them to catch up to the new breed of super Cs.
It's kind of like the dog debates. I had a CG in Florida deny a reservation because I used the term 'Lethal White" to describe my lap buddy. After that, there was no way she could get in.

I am told that many of the "RV resorts" are not allowing RV's over 10 years old. I have never been turned down anywhere, but then we mostly stay in State or National Parks rather than "resorts".

I've seen about the 10 year old rule, but the RV resort near Cashiers is class A only, but nothing about appearance or age.
