Class A Insurance Limits & Deductibles?

I am starting to look for insurance for my new 2017 Newmar Ventana LE 4037. I am to take possession sometime in June. I have received a few quotes and the limits and deductibles are all over the place. This will be financed, so I am assuming the lender will require a certain amount of limits. But I know the insurance companies are in the business of making money and may put more limits than what I actually need or can afford. One particular item is the "uninsured or underinsured motorist". Another is the $10,000 deductibles for comprehensive and collision. I don't recall having this big of a deductible on my last motorhome.

Any help is appreciated.

I am insured with the Hartford thru AARP for my motorhome. I just added it to my policy. It costs me a little over $500 a year with $250000 - $500000 and $100000 property with $500 deductible. If your over 50 that's the way to go.

I started out with Blue Sky and moved over to Hartford (AARP) after Blue Sky jumped up their rates on my Tiffin.

The company doesn't care - the agents are just quoting high deductibles to give you a more attractive premium. You should be telling the agent what coverage limits and deductibles you want, rather than them telling you. If you don't know what the coverages are for and what the limits and deductibles mean, it's time to learn.

A deductible much greater than $2000 is generally considered "disaster" coverage, i.e. you pay for [relatively] minor repairs yourself but get help for major damage or total losses. It's a cost-effective alternative if your budget could handle the deductible should it ever be necessary. If not, stick with a lower deductible and pay the higher premium each year.

I'm not clear on what your question is re uninsured motorist coverage. Un-Insured motorist [UIM] coverage provides medical expenses for you in the event the other motorist is at fault but has no insurance. Many states have some minimum requirement for that type of insurance, and the company quotes whatever is required. You may be also offered some greater coverage or what is called "stacking" as well. If you have other medical insurance that would cover your medical expenses, you probably don't need any more UIM than the legally mandated minimum. UIM does not repair your coach or any personal property loss - your collision & comprehensive coverage would have to handle that if the other driver cannot pay.

I agree that you need to tell your agent what coverage you want. I went from assumed value to full replacement of the coach, which means I get a new coach if it is totaled. This additional coverage costs a little over $100 per year. Also think about full windshield replacement. Rocks find these huge windshields way too often. Progressive got my business this year.

Ours has been paid off for years but i still want to keep close to full coverage on it. I'm still cheap however, so i do go with high deductibles and less coverages. I stepped up the liability amounts but chose to run with a higher comp and collision $2000 deductibles and no PIP or uninsured motorist coverage.

One thing i don't have, and now kinda regret, is glass coverage. Got a crack across one of the windshields that i haven't had fixed because of the high deductible.

I would change these if we were fulltiming but since we aren't on the road very often, these are working for us.

You have to decide on your deductibles, but I learned something many years ago when a rock chipped the windshield of my brand new motor home. I had the comprehensive portion of my deductible (covers things like windshields) lowered to $100.00, which increased my payment about $40.00 a year. It's already paid for itself with three windshield replacements in 13 years.

I set my other deductibles at what I'm willing to pay and feel I can afford. Mine are at $1000.00. Usually, I repair shop will work with you for part of that, so it's realistically about $800.00.

That's who I have also. My cost is higher, probably due to the value of the MH.

The high $10,000 deductible for both comprehensive and collision is what shocked me with the Geico quote that I got. The cost for comprehensive was $482 itself for 6 months where the collision cost was $94.

I just did a quote from AARP/Hartford and it just under $900 for a year. This was with $1,000 deductibles.

Do I have to put the wife as a driver on the policy, being she will not drive it. Will a second driver make any difference on the price also?

Had tornado blow a big tree over the front end of our 1994 motorhome. When it was found the front cap couldn't be replaced, it was decided to total it. What can i say,, Geico's service was fantastic. I had them for years afterwards but the premiums kept creeping up to the point where i finally moved to another company.

I'd say to see what the premiums would be on a Geico policy with a lower deductible. I didn't even know a $10,000 deductible was offered.

We have Progressive now but i have no idea how there service is since we haven't ever filed a claim with them. Their annual premium was low when i bought the policy in 2009 and it's only about $75 higher now.

Don't think your premium will change much by adding your wife. That is, if she doesn't have something going against her such as tickets and a bad driving record.

I am wondering if Geico did something wrong being Hartford was $126 for the comprehensive for 6 months with only a $1,000 deductible.

I plan on getting quotes through the Good Sam Insurance and FMCA next week.

You may want to check progressive rates also.
