Traveling costs are going to be very close to the same. So, you need to decide on what type of accommodations you need while you are on the road, how many in the family, how long of trips and how many, etc. The end result is what do you want...Good luck.

We were in exactly the same position as you several months ago. We've had 4 motorhomes, the most recent a 43' Dutch Star diesel pusher. Sold that 18 months ago since we were no longer living in it 6 months per year. I already owned a 28' fifth wheel and a 3/4 ton diesel truck (Chev/Allison). So last August we took a 5 week trip in the fifth wheel to see of we wanted to buy a newer trailer, or go back to a Class C (previously owned two).

Bottom line is that we stopped in Elkhart and ordered a new Nexus 32P Class C in September. Here's why:
1. Convenience - the fifth wheel was simply more work to set up and tear down. New ones have auto leveling, and that might help. I had also lost my backing skills, although that's not a reason to choose one or the other since that can easily be learned with experience.
2. Travel Amenities - the ability to get up and use the bathroom (for my wife), getting a cold drink, etc while traveling is important to us and makes the trip more enjoyable.
3. Co-Driver - my wife is very comfortable driving a Class C, and can take the wheel part of the time. Not so with the fiver or diesel pusher.

Operating costs didn't really enter into our decision. After all the RVs we've owned I'm absolutely convinced that it is one of the most expensive ways to travel and vacation (unless you have a park model at a fixed site). We just really like the lifestyle and people we meet and travel with.

Thanks for all the info everyone. We're driving cross-country each year and staying at a camping resort for 3.5 months of the year. We wanted a vehicle to drive around that go good mileage which is why we're leaning toward a Class C. I personally would like a 31 ft. TT but that would mean driving a truck around and not getting good mileage....so you've helped me to decide. I think the Class C wins.

we recently moved from TT to the 31' Cl C and we tow a CRV. We haven't had any trouble getting use to this setup and I agree with the many points made by users of various campers in this topic. We hope to start using ours more this year. Have fun and enjoy whatever you decide.
