Cleaning residue on awning - Another rookie mistake!
So in my misplaced wisdom, I sprayed Goo-Gone on my awning to remove pitch. I rinsed it soon after but today I look at it and I see white spray marks everywhere. I scrubbed it to no avail. Any ideas on how I can resurrect it before my DW sees it next season?

It may be that the Goo-Gone was not compatible with the dye in the awning; if so, the spray marks may be permanent. However, you might try this technique:

Good luck!

Goo Gone is now a brand name, with multiple products. Which one did you use? You said "spray", so maybe the spray gel? It says "Do not use on: silk, leather, suede, rubber, faux stainless steel, drywall, unfinished wood surfaces, unsealed stone"
If it removed the color from the awning (was it vinyl or woven acrylic fabric?), chances are the dyes have been bleached out. Nothing will fix that except replacing the awning fabric.
Tip for the future: pine pitch is readily removed with inexpensive isopropyl alcohol, available in parmacies and most grocery stores.

In terms of DW finding out, when you take it out of winter storage, you can say look what those awning weevils did to our awning.

So after looking up the replacement price (around 200) for the awning material, I 'fessed up to the DW about my blunder. She was more concerned about the underside that she sees, so I've survived for another day...
Thanks for the tips which I will try out and file away for the future!
