There could be sensors that detect the amount of detergent in the wash. Less detergent, less time spent to rinse therefore less cycle time. I'm just guessing though.

They are pretty "intuitive". I'm thinking its a suds thing as well but it's hard to tell because all of these detergents are low suds. And that's ok. I once watched a lady at the laundrymat dump a bunch in a front loader. When I asked her in general conversation why she stated that she didn't believe it was cleaning if she couldn't see s lot of suds. That washer ran forever in the rinse cycles. She couldn't understand why my washer was finished faster. Bless her heart��

Any HE will work and I found fabric softener helps the drying to keep them from being wrinkle and in a ball.

I use Method from Target. Come in a squirt bottle. 3 squirts and does a great job!
