Spoke with a campground operator yesterday and he stated that they are putting in some new sites to try to get some of the walmart crowd. They will be low cost sites with limited services. Sounds good to me. He is right off I-75 in Lake City Fl. Maybe it will work out for him.

They'd better be free or I doubt many will take advantage. The advantage to Walmart is they are usually very close to the interstate and you just pull in and park. No backing, no disconnecting toad, etc.

I hope it works out for the campground. It sounds like a great idea and hopefully more campgrounds will follow. Thanks for the post.

I agree. I would support them if the sites are easy in-out with toad attached. Maybe even a reduced-price dry pull-through with just electric. Would be as convenient as Wal-Mart but with the advantage of electric hookup. Many times full hookups are unncessary for an overnight, hence the use of Wal-Marts. But electric is good to have in the hot weather.

I tried 4 times to open the site pictures and only 1/2 show. Maybe its just slow, or my computer. Will try later, if I don't forget.
Sounds like a good idea though.

I think that's a great idea. I wish more campgrounds would consider doing the same thing. Call them "overnighter" sites. No frills, maybe just electric hookups and a reasonably level pull through site. Keep the cost down and I'm sure it will draw some of the Walmart campers.

I just returned from a trip from Washington D.C. to SW Michigan. We spent a night on return in a service plaza along the Ohio Turnpike. There was a seperate area set up for RV's with electric hookups, including 50 amp. There was even a dump station and potable water available. Charge is $20 to spend the night and hook up, far less expensive than local campgrounds. The marked areas are wide enough for slide outs to be open. I wish more states would consider doing the same.

Many RV travelers have been asking for just that type of site.

Low cost and easy in and out, just for the night.

I hope it works out for them.

Sorry I don't recall the name of the service area, but it was in the Toledo area. Not all of the service areas are set up this way, but several across the state are. Stop at the first service area you find and pick up an Ohio turnpike map, it will show the areas with RV hookups.

It's not a new idea but one many of us RV'rs have wanted to see in campgrounds for a long time. Maybe half a dozen or less, long enough not to need to unhook, level, pull-thru sites at the front of a campground for $10 or less, 1 night stay only. Electric would be nice but not really necessary especially if they want to keep costs down. I'd certainly prefer a CG if such sites were available.

I am actually headed that way Monday and was looking for a place to just spend the night. I might stop there and see how it works out.

Come to think of it, even if they charged more than $10, it'd still be a bargain compared to WM. I can never seem to boondock at WM for less than $100.

I believe there are 8 Ohio sevive areas with RV hook ups.

Thats funny Lori

I spend less money coming out any campground than Walmart also.......Most of the time it cost me $100.00 - $300.00+ to boondock at Walmart and most of the time my stay is less than 6-8 hours
