Conditions in Lafayette, LA

We are on a road trip, currently in Nashville. We have planned to visit Natchez, MS, and Lafayette, LA, beginning on September 6 but with recent weather events in Louisiana we are concerned about conditions, especially in Lafayette.

Hate to drive there and find out that all the tourist destinations, etc. are closed because of flood damage, etc. Anyone have an idea as to weather we should continue with our plans or change them to another location.

I called my cousin in Baton Rouge two days ago. She said that things are real bad in Baton Rouge and to the east. All campgrounds, motels and hotels are full and traffic is a mess with those trying to commute in the opposite direction than normal. I would go west from Natchez, then south to Lafayette, but you better call around first.

Depending on what you are going to see in Louisiana....the Lafayette area should be fine. There is a nice city park, FHU in Abbeville for $24 per night. Gravel sites, very quiet. Central to tourist spots like Lafayette, Rayne, Crowley Tabasco, Kon Rico Rice Mill, etc. Phone number 337.898.4042. Abbeville RV Park, Eat at Shucks if you like seafood!

Most of the tourist attractions in this area are ok. A few that are located along the Vermilion River got flooded. As far as RV parks I'm not so sure. People may be staying in RV's in parks until their homes are repaired. Check RV Park Reviews for the parks you may be interested in & contact them for up to date info.
