Controlled Medications on the Road (long)

DW and I have a two to three month road trip planned for this spring. She's in a pain management program from a botched surgery and on some powerful and strictly controlled pain medication. In Florida where we live, it is illegal to obtain more than a 30 day supply at one time and requires an appointment for another prescription.

Her doctor suggested he could write her scripts in advance and we could fill them at any national chains like CVS. Our experience at CVS hasn't been good as they never seem to have this med on hand and I can just imagine how a pharmacist in another state is going to react when presented with a prescription for these meds, written in advance, from a doctor in Florida.

This is a serious obstacle for us and were interested in how other long term travelers handle this.

is it possible, that if you use a national pharmacy (ex: Walmart) that has your information on computer file, you would be able to refill the prescription anywhere that pharmacy is located? Don't know if that's the case, but it might be.
