Could this be modified to carry a kayak?

I'm thinking this might make a good mount for carrying my 8' kayak on the back of my class C. At 75" high it would hold the kayak parallel to the bumper but below the roof so I don't believe wind would be a problem. The kayak only weighs 38 pounds. I now carry the yak on top of the car, but the mounting straps cause an annoying vibration and whistle.

This shows how we roll, but without the Segway that I carried above the tow bar. I still have the dual hitch adapter.

Have you tried adding a half twist to the straps. Maybe even a couple twists if there is a long straight run ie from kayak to front bumper. I was taught to add a half twist when strapping down loads on trucks.

I'll need to double check the weights, but this might work better than the dual hitch adapter.

Would I be able to use this while towing my travel trailer and add a bike rack?

If it's just for a bike rack the one in post #7 will work on the back of your trailer if you have a 4" square bumper. If not the one in post #6 will for sure work to put the bikes above the trailer tongue. The hitch tighteners really help prevent sagging and wobble.

Thanks! Nice racks, but pricey -- especially for just one small yak.

I got one of these this year too. They are pricey, but the only way I could come up with hauling 2 short yaks and 2 bikes, and not add a lot to our overall length.
