We are looking at going to Puerto Penasco at EOM October. Anybody with words of great wisdom is greatly appreciated. I know "no guns or ammo".

Who do you reccommend for insurance?

Make sure you don't have any weapons or ammo - even a couple of loose rounds can get you in serious trouble.

Suggest you check the Escapees Discussion Forums and post your question under "General RV Information". Lee Jacobs is a frequent poster on Escapees and spends a lot of time in Mexico. She is very knowledgeable of all the various issues that you may encounter.

We have spent the past six winters in Mexico. Specifically Mazatlan and Kino Bay on the Sea of Cortez. As Mexican liability is required by law in Mexico, we purchase our insurance from:

We are in Mexico several times every year. We just returned from Ensenada. We crossed this year at Tecate instead of the mess at Tijuana. In a 40' motor home with tow car it was very tight crossing into the US!

Anyway, insurance, I know that some people simply buy a one day policy to go to Rocky point for their motor home going in and one day going out. If you are making just one trip into Mexico that may be your cheapest way to go.

Our insurance carrier for our motor home is National Interstate. They will insure our motor home for $5.00 more per year. That does not include liability. We get a drivers license policy for Mexican liability from the Vagabundos club. They are easy to find on the web. The cost is about $100 a year. That covers me for liability for any vehicle I drive in Mexico. Currently we carry a Mexican policy on the Escape but not the bike.

Rocky Point is a very easy place to visit in Mexico. As long as you don't do stupid things, travel in Mexico is much safer than many think it is. However, I'm not sure we want to promote that idea as space is limited!
