I have a 230 cummins turbo 5.9B, its a 1994 in a 36 ft coach with 6 speed allison. I was wondering if theres anyway to get more power from this engin besides the expensive Banks system? Its great on fuel mileage but sure is slow on take off, an slow on pulling grades from a stop. I also tow a 1994 jeep grand cherokee. Anyone has any experience with this engine in this size RV could give me some advice would be appreaciated. Thanks

Tom,
I can't remember when they changed over from mechanical to electric pumps but yes there are other companies with better prices. For the mechanical there are TST fuel plates and others. I would caution you though that you will have heat problems if you go too much more.

Bill

The 5.9B changed from mechanical to electronic in mid-year 98. Your engine should be mechanical.

As the other post stated, you should be able to obtain a "plate" to increase injection timing and fueling. Changing the turbo setting so you get more boost would also help.

As previously stated, by increasing fueling you will increase exhaust gas temperatures, which will in turn increase engine / coolant temperatures. You will have to add an exhaust gas temperature gauge to monitor EGT temps and also keep an eye on your coolant temp.

For what its worth,

there is a forum for diesel freaks, specific topics to your engine here

some of the guys are a little nutty, but they can help you produce better power, usually with better fuel numbers too.

Tom,

the trick with that site is to not get carried away. If you take too much advice, your MH will end up with 8 inch chrome stacks, twin turbo, and have your fuel pump pushing twice the amount of fuel making 600 HP, and 12 second 1/4 miles.
