Cure for peeling clear-coat... Maybe!

when i bought coach it had a spot about 2 inches square. went through an interstate truck wash and big mistake:bang head: it started . i tried the feather and paint to no avail. talked to mfg.. they said that year there was an issue and would repaint clear for about 15000. it is so loose that when you wash with a hose it acts like you could peel it like a banana had one shop would prep and shoot clear for about 1500 got to get weather to cooperate

Sounds like they let the color cure too long before applying the clear.
That doesn't allow good chemical adhesion.
Make sure the remove all the silicone sealant, wetsand the color coat off, wetsand all the remaining color, clean, and then apply compatible clear.

Yes Joe and I kind of got away with it for a time. However it is so easy to sand through the color.

If you are going to the trouble of sanding just go ahead and get it smooth and remove the clear. Ok it will look a bit spotty but that is ok.

Buy a cheap paint sprayer at HF. The ten dollar one when on sale works great. Put some alcohol or lacquer thinner in it and practice shooting a board or piece of cardboard.

Once you get the pattern decent and calm your nerves you are ready to shoot the prepped area. The devil is in the prep. Masking things off can take a long time and can be dangerous on a ladder. If you can get a scaffold you are so much better off. Again HF can have a decent sale on them.

Now spray your color that you had matched by taking a panel off something to the paint shop. Your color may not be perfect but then no one will notice it like they did the peeling stuff.

Shoot several layers on. If you get a drip don't panic. Just let it cure real well and sand it smooth. It only takes a few hours to be hard enough to sand. Once you are satisfied hit it with clear. Again just be patient. Watch youtubes for real world painting tips.

You do not need a paint booth for this. I painted an airplane in my driveway. It took a long time since I was building it at the same time but it came out gorgeous.

I did the sanding thing with 1500 and used rattle can clear coat which lasted several years but more areas began peeling so I just bit the bullet and painted it then clear coated it.

I am sure you will feel a whole lot better post the surgery. Best of luck.

Coincidentally, I am actually working, as I type, on a device with a MD Physical Therapist to aid in knee recuperation post TKR (total knee replacement) surgery. Won't be available in time for your needs though! Maybe in time if you have your other knee done (pretty common).

The sanding is a lot of the hard work. Good that's behind you.

you can get a better quality clear coat in a can. 2K clear coat is 2 part clear in a self mixing can. pricier than rattle can but more durable. about $21 a can will be doing the front of my coach sometime this week as I peeled some paint when removing the Diamond Shield. luckily only one color involved and I have the correct paint with me from a previous spot repair. since this is on the front of the coach and very visible I need to do properly.

Park the RV under cover so the sun doesn't get to it in storage will go a long way to prevent paint damages. Already damaged will basically be a repaint for the whole thing.

Update- I had the knee replacement yesterday. All went well. Stayed in the hospital last night. They had me up walking at 5AM ! Not much pain so far. I'm walking on it every 2 hours!
