Daylight savings

There has been a great deal of discussion about this on the news as we approach the time to change our clocks. I would like to suggest that it is not all bad.
Today is the start of daylight savings and I say bring it on. I am more than happy to have an extra hour of daylight between 9pm and 10pm instead of 4:30am to 5:30am in summer. When winter comes I don’t mind losing an hour of daylight between 5pm and 6pm so sunrise isn’t past 9am.
It may be true in our 24/7 world, that we don’t save much energy, but for those of us that live in areas where the hours of daylight change from 16 at the summer solstice to only 9 at the winter solstice, it sure makes the most use of those daylight hours when we switch our clocks twice a year.
As far as negative effects, millions and millions of people every day engage in behaviours that mimic this time change, whether it is staying up late to go to a party, getting up early to go fishing, changing meal times on weekends, or traveling between time zones. Most people don’t automatically think they are going to have a heart attack or die in a car accident when they do these things. We all know the time change is coming and should be able to adapt our behaviour accordingly Last time I checked there were still 24 hours in the day when we switch to daylight savings.
So if you still want to enjoy that late evening golf game in the summer, or go skiing before 10 in the morning in winter speak up, or you will lose one of those options if the one time all year long gets approved.

AZ doesn't play the clock game and I do not notice one way or other.
(only been living in AZ for 5 yrs)

Played the clock game and always thought it was silly.
24 hrs is 24 hrs regardless of how you cut the blanket up

There's and old Indian sayin;
Only a white man would cut one end off a blanket, sew it onto the other end, and try to 'sell' it as a longer blanket!!

The FL legislature considered eliminating standard time and staying on DST along with re-drawing the central time zone westward slightly to keep all of FL in the eastern time zone. I thought it was a good idea, but nothing came of it.

I love that saying

I'm retired and I still don't like..
used to hate it when I still worked full time.

It’s never bothered me in the least. I just adjust my activities accordingly even before I was retired. Now my only issue is making sure my coffee pot comes on at the right time. Day is day and night is night. Seems simple enough to me.

what is so difficult to understand about an extra hour of sunlight...it's not an extra hour. the blanket analogy is false.

our local paper stated that the time change is confusing to many people. confusing? those people must be easily confused.

Twice a year the roosters have to adjust crowing time.

And if that's not enough, think of those poor guys having to move those huge rocks at Stonehenge twice a year.

DST all year means some kids going to school in the morning while it's dark. mom and pops aren't likely to like that. i suspect DST all year long is a popular idea until the details are understood.

Changing time twice a year is a terrible idea.
