De-winterized today!

Just like the title says, we de-winterized today and it is a good feeling!

Since we bought this fiver in early February, I've had time to install a water heater, new kitchen faucet and add an expansion tank. I was only able to pressure test the faucet and water heater connections with antifreeze, because I didn't want to fill the water heater, or expansion tank with the antifreeze. Today, I was able to flush out all the antifreeze and fill the entire system with water.

Much to my surprise, I found no leaks!

Since the water heater has the relay for the 120v heating element, I wanted to test it's operation after modifying the wiring to make it work. I switched the WH electric on at the control panel and waited for 30 minutes, to see if my WH wiring was correct. After 30 minutes of waiting, we had no hot water... I checked the switch again and it was still lit. That's when the thought occurred to me, that I should probably check the 120v circuit breaker... DUH!!!!! It was off...

Do you guys know how to spell S O U T H? That would end this "winterization" stuff. I must admit, there are some days down here when we don't need to run the air conditioners. To be completely honest, I did burn 18 gallons of propane this winter.

I was inside my coach yesterday, eager to get something going but held off. Slides were out and the tv was on. Good weather for the week and next week looks good as well. Getting itchy, just don't quite trust this NE weather so I'll wait for mid April then nothing will freeze on me. Good luck to those who have drained antifreeze early, I hope your safe. Safe travels

Sounds like Spring fever is hitting a few. I guess that's good but hope you don't get a blast of cold weather and it decides to hang around for a while.

Here in Colorado its usually safe to de-winterize after April 15th...Temps do go down at night but way above freezing during the day. In order to cause problems it has to stay below freezing all day and all night long. But if temps come up during the day your usually ok. We live at 5000 ft.

Hey Don, I'm also in Colorado just south of Denver. We just got our first RV in Sept 2011 and I'm itching to "summerize" it. Given the April 15 date you mentioned, I may have to take off early on Friday April 13 and de-winterize and take a quick weekend road trip. But before I go, I have some plumbing I did this winter that I want to check.

If your checking out the water heater element make sure you have water heater filled with water or you will need a new if not done.
Happy new year of RVing.
