The only place I would ever pay prior to examining the final product would be at McDonalds Drive-thru! Only $6. at risk then, and when they screw up the order, they WILL make it right no questions asked.

You have every right to be leery

Now that you have lost Trust in the transaction, It is just not a good idea to advance any more cash until delivery-and -make the manufacturer is joint payee on the funds.

I believe this transaction is quite unusual, both parties are trying to protect their interests. Buyer is feeling the demands are unreasonable, while the dealer is proceeding, never seeing or handling the unit. I could see where the buyer obtains their own financing, picking-up the unit and the selling dealer never receives a dime.
