Exclamation Dealer wants loan to start 6 weeks before coach is built

and he wants the first payment before the coach is finished. Is this crazy talk or what?

He also assures us we won't be registering the coach in California..we are picking it up in Indiana and registering it in our home state of Florida, but he also wants us to fill out a California state registration form. Says not to worry, I wrote OOS on the top of the form.

I am having a very bad feeling about this.

Doesn't sound right to me, unless you've made some extraordinary requests on the coach build. Perhaps a refundable deposit would be appropriate, but I'd find a different dealer. NO reason to fill out a CA registration form.

We already put down a deposit 2.5 months ago. Coach will be ready April 13, he wants loan to start tomorrow with first payment in March. Says this is the way "all" RV dealers work. Of course there was no mention of this previously.

That definitely is not how all dealers work! Who's the dealer?

Once the loan starts the dealer gets funded. Sounds like he wants his money early. Too bad, tell him no, you will sign the loan papers upon delivery.

Run, don't walk, as far away from that dealer as you can!

If you can cancel the order and receive your deposit back, then I would say "Run, don't walk, away from that dealer as quickly as possible". If he needs money he should be able to qualify for his own loan.

Sorry, MSHappyCampers, didn't realize I stole your line until after I posted. Great minds, and all that.

I would not let the loan payments begin until the unit is delivered and you accept it. Tell the salesman or owner that the first payment check will be in the mail 30 days after you take delivery.

OH... Hell no !!?!??!

Obviously, do what you feel you need to do... but if it were me.. there is no way on God's green Earth I would pay for an RV without first being able to do my own PDI on it..

What happens if something happens to it on the way from the manufacturer to the dealership.. is he going to ask that you file a claim for the damages? Furthermore, if you pay for it.. technically, you own it.. you would have to have insurance and likely be held liable for anything that happens, should the unthinkable happen.. Yikes !?!?

I think a polite.. NO !?!?! is in order here... and if the dealer doesn't like that answer, I would kindly as for my deposit back and RUN, don't walk, off of his property to the next dealer..

Good Luck !!

NO.. NO... NO....

If he signs the loan, he is the owner.. what if the unthinkable happens???

Doesn't matter when the first payment is, trying to "unwind" a loan is nearly impossible.. and that would mean the dealer would "technically" need to return the funds... do you really think the dealer would be able to do that.. I mean, if he needs the money now.. what makes you think he will have the money when it gets delivered..

This dealer is living "paycheck to paycheck"... DO NOT give this dealer anymore of your money.. at least not until you have done a thorough PDI on the unit and everything is to YOUR satisfaction !!

I know you have been asked who the dealer is.. and I understand if you don't want to divulge that information... but would you please at least let us know the make/model of the RV you have on order..

I would think a phone call to the manufacturer would be a prudent move... I'm thinking they would advise against paying for something you have yet to receive too..

Thanks for the responses. We have not signed any papers and I have contacted an attorney. The dealer was supposed to call us back in "ten minutes" three hours ago. This just came out of the blue and the guy was just so matter of fact about it I was astonished.
