It depends a little on when you buy, as well as where the model is in it's lifespan. Especially depends on how long the dealers has been paying for "flooring". In stock will always be cheaper than custom order.
But at the end of the day, the msrp is in fact a suggested price. The right price is whatever the market dictates.
I paid 25% below msrp, but it was technically last year's model and is now discontinued. Got a "free" bumper-mount grill thrown in, so they must have still had margin.

True, but they have absolutely no need to cut you a deal on the unit or the options you pick. They still have to pay flooring on the unit you did NOT buy off the lot And they take on a certain risk by ordering an incremental unit to their inventory because you (hopefully) have not paid for it yet and could still walk.
Custom orders are a cash cow.
