Question Decision between 2 service contract providers

As I do not want to hijack Troopers thread by zeroing in on only 2 providers, I elected to start a new thread for this. There are many threads in many forums debating the pros and cons of service contracts. I have read and learned a great deal since beginning my search. Thanks to all who have submitted info and opinions on this subject. In my experience if I purchase a service contract I'll not have need of it, but if I don't I will definitely need to have one. So the decision has already been made regardless of the argument for self insurance. I do not however wish to spend more on dealer commission than on the insurance policy itself. I have had experience going this route.

The 2 contracts I'm looking at are both exclusionary. The first is Interstate Star - Diamond backed by General Fidelity Insurance Company and the second is Prizm - The Plan / Plan2 - underwritten by Lyndon Property Insurance Company. The Interstate product is sold only through dealers and never directly to the consumer due to commission potential, while Prizm is upfront with pricing for a specific term, sold directly to the consumer and considerably less pricey. I have both contracts and have read them. They seem to cover the same items and exclude the same items. Both cover wear and tear. Both are for comparable periods with the same deductibles. Both require preauthorization immediately before the coach is touched by service personnel.

Does anyone actually have experience working with either of these companies or these specific contracts in the past two years?

Thanks so much.

I have Interstate Star - Diamond and I have used it one time. I had 2 defective items repaired at the same time, paid 1 deductible of $100. The total bill was about $1400. The dealer took care of all of the approvals and paperwork.

Have neither, but a note. When I narrowed my chocie to 2 companies. I found that both will negoiate against each other for the contract. Same was true with same company, different dealers. Spread was over $1,000.00 dollars on 5 year contract!

We have Good Sam but I can say that the dealer could not come even close to their price. I am not pushing Good Sam, just mentioning how much cheaper a policy was not buying it from the dealer.

Thanks for the info Wayne. I've noted what Jim is speaking of a the dealer is checking out Pizm. Thanks Mark I did look at Good Sam (I am a member) but found that GS was not an exclusionary program, therefore many loopholes exist.

Ken,
I'm sorry, I can't help you with either companies as I have never used them.

If you have positively narrowed down your choices to those two companies, then ignore the rest of this reply.

If you are open to another recommendation, have you received a quote from RV Protection.net? I've purchased my last two policies directly from them and the cost was much lower than from the dealer. The company that wrote the policy is USA Travelcare. This is my second policy with them and I am very happy with their service. They have never denied a claim on a covered item and they have never given my repair shop a hard time.

Good luck in your search.

Craig
