Did you renew your Good Sams membership?

Ours is about due for renewal. We have not used it even once this year, so I am thinking that we don't need it. We stayed at a Good Sams park for a month and the owner offered me a reduced rate without even asking me if I was a Good Sams member. But, we stayed mostly in military campgrounds.
What value am I missing?
The same is true for Passport America. Both organizations are probably great, but there were no PA locations near where we wanted to stop.
And, now we won't travel again until next summer, so if we wanted the cards, we could join then, I guess.
Did you renew your cards? We would like to hear your opinions before we let them expire. I bet you have some thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Did not renew, Didn't find them all that useful and I just got plain tired of all the junk mail.

Hi.Pogo,I use mine some for the discount,if Good Sam C.G. is in the area I want to camp, but the main reason I keep it is the rallys .The state rallys in our area,NC,SC,TENN,VA,GA. Are the best bang for the buck going,go to their Web site and see what they have if Fla... Same reason with FMCA.both also have nat. rallys.By the way this Free web site also has local and nat. rallys. This may be dumb but its my reasons.

HI,

I have renewed my Good Sam Membership every year since 1989 as I use it for the 10% discount at campgrolunds and the CSP extended warranty prorgam. Highways magazines has some good ideas too as well as other member benefits such as Standby Sams.

As for Passport America I use that a lot too in fact I used it when we went to Alaska. Yes sometimes they are not near highway but we don't like to stay near a highway and they do have some restrictions but at 50% off it pays for itself after 2 nites stays at a $20.00 a night campground.

Hope this helps.

After a lot of thought I decided not to renew. I think it is a great and very helpful organization. But at this time we're only on the road 4 to 6 months a year. Our destinations are usually boondocking or family side yards and we tend to hit the casinos in between. If we were to go fulltime, I would certainly sign back up I think it would pay for itself in a short time.

NO! Maybe someday when they offer their current members the same deals as new members, and stop all the spam and junk mail.

Just renewed mine because I have reservations for next August that give the Good Sams discount which adds up to more then a years membership fee cost me. However most places we stay at have a stay two or three days and get one free which is better then the Good Sams discount. Without Good Sams I would not have the joy of deleting all their junk emails.. When I retire and have time to really travel I think the membership will pay off.

I signed up again this year because I was thinking of joining a local club. BUT I hate the junk mail and the notices to pay when it's not due for 6 more months!!!

ps Just got my new GS road side service cards and an invoice... but mines doesn't expire till the end of February next year.

We'll not renew. We have found that unless the GS campground is directly on the highway we are on, it's just not worth the 10% discount to drive any more than 3-4 miles out of our way. And as others have mentioned, the junk mail received is over the top. Bob

Pogo, you have taken the right aproach, if you arn't recouping the cost, it's not a good purchase.

We always renew and it always pays for itself. We only regret that we did not sign up for the lifetime option so, so many years ago.

We are life members and use it at most parks we stay in. This year you can use it in Camping world stores, it is based on years as members if you are a life member no need to reup the camping world membership as you get the same benefits as a Camping World Member. Also you can opt out of the junk mail by going on the Good Sam Site and selecting the mail opt out feature. If you want to have a great time with people that like the things you do Camping and fellowship then join a local chapter and attend a good sam rally. Check out the Tennessee website, Tennessee Good Sam Home Page
