You know you can rate a thread, right? Click on the Rate Thread link. Aside from thanking a member for an individual post, that's the closest we can get to the "thumbs up".

Ha...I learn something new every day. Good thing that "Rate a Thread" wasn't a snake...I'd be dead by now.

I'll be using it from now on.

I have received a private thanks but never knew where it came from. Now I know. However I like to see a post from the OP with feedback and thanks.

Just my opinion.

When you go to your user CP it shows who sent it. They can leave a comment as well.

If you mean you want to know what you are being thanked for there will be a highlighted "this post" in the message. Just click on that and it will take you to the thread you are being thanked for. You can actually send more information to the person you are thanking if you want to be specific or have any additional questions.

Great thread - I have found iRV2 to be one of the friendlyest forums around.

Always helpful, just look at what was taught in this thread.......well, well worth my support!

Hitting the Thanks button on its own is actually quite meaningless and there are plenty on forums who feel obliged to hit every thanks or Like button the see. I suspect they are the same people who punctuate their posts with random emoticons or write LOL at the end of each sentence. Never graduated from Kindergarten where they give out stars like confetti.

A real gripe is when people contact me off forum or via the PM facility and ask for information - sometimes requiring a detailed reply. So I spend an hour labouriously typing out a considered reply and send it off only to never receive so much as a KMA in reply. Those are the ones I would love to be able to anticipate and ignore.

I think many people don't see the buttons because not many of them can quote a post they are replying to either.

Yes, true, but it would help a lot if those who did know how edited the length of the quoted text just a little.

Let's stay on topic here as this thread is about the thanks button.
Thanks

I like the THANKS button because it avoids excessive posts with no additional information. I also use it when a thread is going sideways and I don't want to participate but appreciate a specific post within that thread.
