Refinery fire:How depressing is this?

From Fleet Owner
http://fleetowner.com/news/west_coast_refinery_californ...price_record_080405/

"California is getting the worst of [the price increases]," Cinquegrana continued. "But Arizona, Nevada, Oregon and Washington will be experiencing these increases as well. My forecast is very expensive for diesel over the balance of the month. At the rate we're going, $3 for a gallon of diesel isn't out of the question."

Isn't out of the question? It already hit $3.00 a gallon here where I live. That is depressing.

Diesel is cheap here in northern Nevada, it is only $2.99.9/10 per gallon.. and it will never be $3.00 a gallon..

Our Snowbird 2003-04 average cost for diesel fuel was $1.75/gal. Assuming that diesel will average $3.00/ gal and that we drive the same distance this year at the same MPG, our cost for diesel fuel this Snowbird season will be $1,200 more than last year.

This means that some previously planned Snowbird 2005-06 activities will have to be eliminated. We'll need to cut back on day and over night trips from our base camp, eating out, entertainment and gifts in order to remain with in budget.

We'll still have a good time on Snowbird 2005-06, but I think that our cutting back will have some effect on the economy. I don't think that I'm the only RV'er who will be cutting back this season. Multiply the extra cost spent on fuel by thousands across the country rather than on other discretionary items, it has to have some effect on the economy. RV'ing is a BIG business. Maybe the economist will shed some light on this next year.

There's already an effect.

RVIA is reporting overall RV shipments at a 6.8% decrease compared to the same time last year. Class 'A' Motorhomes have taken the biggest slide being off by a whopping 27.9%. Surprisingly, there has been a slight increase in shipments of lower end Travel Trailers, presumably at the expense of potential Class "A" buyers.

I think RV sales will keep declining until the fuel prices stabilize or start coming down some. Myself, I'm taking fewer trips of shorter distances and have put off thoughts of trading up to a newer rig until I see what's happening with energy prices and the economy.

Up here the diesel is $2.67 and it doesn't look like it will be going down anytime soon. In fact it has been quite some time since I have seen a drop in price.
I guess I will be getting a snowmobile suit and be riding the motorcycle a lot more!

I confess, it is all my fault. We bought our first diesel truck in May. The oil giants had a big meeting and decided that since Robert bought a diesel they would raise the price oh well, that's Murphy's Law and since our Eog is named Murphy, Murphy's Law is always in effect
Diesel went from 2.19 Tues morning to 2.30 Tues afternoon... Uvalde Tx

Here in GA, price for diesel has dropped. It's now about $2.24/gal and if you shop around, you may find it a few cents lower. Don't know how long it will be this way.

Come and see Georgia!

The Sonoco across the street from our Campground has been $2.33 for diesel for quite a while.

Being at the intersection of I-4 and Hwy 27 (a very busy intersection for trucks) the manager told me he was keeping the price close to cost to hang on to his truck market.

Prices for diesel around the Central Florida area are upwards of $2.79/gal. Tania and I are staying put until we can see some prices drop or until I can rig up a harness for her to pull this 10 ton fiver down the road.
