Diesel pricing ripoffs

When I was a young man, many moons ago, diesel was priced cheaper than gas. Then, not that many moons ago, diesel became costlier than gas. Now, who knows.
We left AZ on Monday 4/18 and diesel was about $.13 cheaper than gas, it stayed about that way to middle CO. From there through to IN, diesel jumped to as much as $.30 a gal more than gas. I purchased diesel in mid MI yesterday for $.26 less than diesel.
As Ricky used to say to Lucy...You got some splainin' to do.
Of course fuel in general was $.10 to $.15 a gal. higher at the expressway stations. Drive 1/2 a mile or a few blocks and prices were cheaper.

Wanna know about a rip-off? First check the taxes on diesel fuel. Here in Taxsylvania, we have about the highest fuel tax in the nation and diesel is taxed more than gas.

It might be worth your time to read about the factors effecting gas prices. This is a pretty good summery of the basics.

Taxes. Come to Cali. We have a .13cpg state excise tax and an almost 10% state sales tax on diesel. Then add in the federal excise taxes too. Here's a good chart of diesel tax rates:

I am just thankful it's not $5 a gallon like it was a few years ago

Paid $1.91 a gallon for the cheap stuff to fill up my hearse.... A few hundred feet away a shell station was $2.21 for the cheap stuff

Have you not heard of the " GOLDEN RULE"?
The man with the gold makes the rules and he can set what ever price he wants!
In our area diesel is lower than gas but still has gone up in price.

Just returned from 3k miles road trip. Saved a bout .27 a gal on diesel by not buyin at FJ, P, TA truck stops. OTR trucking companies have fuel contacts with those fuel sellers. Its only RVer's that are paying advertised price. Yea I have a GSFJ card that gives me .06 a gal off. But can do much better by avoiding truck stops. just sayn

Maybe It'll make you feel better that I saw Diesel for $2.03/Gal and Regular for $2.15 today at Racetrack in Orlando. Probably just a pricing fluke for the day

I agree! As long as it's below $3.00 a gallon I'll never complain! Try pulling up to the diesel pump in your tractor & trailer with 450 gallon tanks at $5.00 a gallon and that comes out of MY pocket! That's $2,250.00 in fuel!

That is my point. Diesel can be lower than gas in some areas and way higher in some areas. Why? It is not the tax structure that swings diesel higher or lower than gas.

I live in Indiana, diesel is close to 30 cents less per gallon than gasoline near my house.
