Is the smell of diesel only when you are driving or does it smell all the time. Had the rig been sitting a long time, there is a potential of mice eating hoses.
Do you have an aquahot type system, I've read/heard that the fuel line that feeds it can some times leak.
The line feeding the engine could also have problems.

Be very careful. There have been some serious fires resulting from diesel leaking from fuel lines and getting on hot parts like exhaust etc.
This happened to a guy I know and he was driving along the road and it wasn't till he slowed right down that it flaired right up. They had just enough time to get out the door.

A slideout genset has a long flexible line, bolted in genset has a short one. The fuel tank may have a flexible hose between filler cap and tank. There are 2 flexible fuel lines between the engine and frame. And of course there are steel fuel lines between those flexible lines continuing to the injectors, all with threaded connections which can loosen or gasket leak. If your fuel cap is not tightened it can leak.

Spring clamps work much better than worm-gear clamps for pressurized lines, especially for fuel. They do not loosen from vibration or heat cycling.
