I am looking at buying a truck and a slide in camper and trying to decide between a diesel or gas engine. Would it be a problem to find diesel fuel if you are in a remote area like Alaska. I know diesel is available along any major route, particularly with truck travel

Welcome to iRV2. I have no personal experience in Alaska. However, I doubt there would be any problem obtaining diesel fuel. There are many diesel powered vehicles in Alaska.

We traveled into Alaska last summer...we were in a gasser but we always saw diesel everywhere - no problem in AK or Canada. Bob

Gas price is higher here than diesel now.

I've traveled USA, Canada and Alaska in five differnet diesels and never had a problem finding diesel fuel. If diesel is what you want go for it.

All but the smallest slide in's are pretty darn heavy, figure at least a 1 ton truck and of course, you'll want a 4x4. You really only have one real option, diesel.

I agree... those campers get really heavy...even the smaller ones. Do yourself a big favor and get the 3500/350 diesel DRW....you won't regret it.

As far as Alaska...diesel is anywhere there is gasoline....been there done that. However, just remember that gas/diesel is MUCH more in Canada and Alaska than it is in the lower 48.

The only problem with a diesel and a slide in camper is you lose 800# to 1,000# of cargo capacity due to the heavy engine and trans.

www.allstays.com has lots of different listings, one is to find where any gas stations are that sell diesel.

As a person who owns a large TC do not get anything smaller than a 1 ton truck, a 3/4 ton can not handle the weight. I used a 1 ton crew cab dully 4x4 diesel and it worked well. My TC dry weight is 3,100 lbs. I started off with a 3/4 ton because the salesman said it would work ya right! We now have a 38 ft MH and I need to sell the TC this spring. We will miss the TC there were a lot great memories camping but now we have the MH and will be full timing in about a year.
