Helped my buddy switch his dtv traveller to Dish yesterday. Simple to do. Took about an hour. Simply remove old dtv dish and assembly and bolt on new Dish assembly

THE LATEST, I have contacted DirectTV three times this week and talked to three different people in tech, thinking I would get some result different than "Sorry we can't change your service to your billing address because the computer says that service is not available at that address". I tell them that I am currently watching TV on their Sat at my billing address and I have had service there for over 5 years. I even tried to use Chat like suggested, but got the same result. I have spent over three hours total this week trying to get local channels. The last was wait 72 hours and they might have an answer and if so they will call me. This last was from the moving department.

AT&T is a mess.

I built a new house in a relatively new neighborhood. It was a long build and during that time I order a temp landline so that we would have internet, phone and security cameras at the build site, and the plan was to eventually move my old number to the new house once completed.

So, fast forward to when we move in and I try and get my phone number migrated from my old address to the new address. ATT tells me the don't offer telephone service at my address. I explain that I'm talking to you on an AT&T landline at the address they don't serve, and they say, "we don't offer phone service at that address."

An AT&T serviceman was there later in the morning dealing with buzzing on the line, and I explain what happened, and he said he would try. I was by his truck for a while, as he's explaining, "I can assure you we offer landline service here, as I was just working on his line -- all he wants to do is migrate his old number."

That service guy spent nearly three hours fighting his way through and finally got an order in to migrate my number.

Unfortunately, while DirecTV wasn't great before, when AT&T bought them, they seem to now have the worst traits of both companies.

Here is the latest info on Satellite for RVs that applies to my situation. I will call "Dish Outdoors" at 800-472-1039 and talk to Craig. He will set me up with the new Dish account at home and the stuff for the MH, and it will be only $7 a month more for the RV with the same programing I will have at the house. Since I have a "Winegard Traveler" on the roof I can spend some money and convert it to Dish like explained elsewhere in this thread, or just leave it alone and get a Dish "Tailgater Pro" to set anywhere I want. That way if I want to park under trees I can place the dish where I need to (hoping nobody steals it). If I want to record shows I will need the DVR upgrade. No turning on and off the service.

OK...I'm totally new to this stuff and we're looking to purchase a Winegard satellite dome for our RV. We have Direct TV at home, and they told us today to buy the satellite from Winegard ($579) and get the 'receiver' from them - Direct TV (for $200), which would provide the DVR for one feed. Does this sound valid? Are you guys saying Direct TV won't work while we're traveling - or am I totally misunderstanding this thread...

It looks like you won't be able to get local channels while away from your S/B home if you don't have another account that allows you to. In my situation I took my Genie from the house and put it in the MH.

Cinders1, if I remember correctly Chris at the number above might be able to help you with your specific needs, he is quite knowledgeable about both systems.

I was a 20 year Directv customer but recently fired them as dealing with AT&T had ceased being worth the hassle.

I just completed converting my Directv Winegard Traveler to a Dish Traveler. It cost less than $400 and took about an hour. I purchased a Hopper 3 and a wireless Joey from Dish Depot in Naples FL total cost $428. We then set up an account with Dish Outdoors (they will tell you that they don't do Hoppers but if you insist they will activate it). So we now have a 16 tuner DVR, the ability to change service addresses via an APP and it all works like a charm. Go Dish and enjoy.

Amazon. You need an SK-21. an SK-11, a DPH-42 and a hybrid solo hub. You can also buy from various other places. Just google it.

How much a month is Dish costing for the one's that switched? Also is it correct that you can turn your system off for months at a time and then turn it back on? If I did this I would only use Dish while traveling. Will any of the portable models work the same as the Trav'ler conversion?

Right now I have the Trav'ler plus a tripod setup. I would have to change both of them which will cost more. I would need a multi-tuner DVR.

Reubenray - We turned off our DirectTV when we traveled, a couple of winters ago. They allow 3 months or more to turn it off and not eliminate your account. You cannot access your account if it's turned off at home, though. Last year, we didn't turn it off and just used our tablets to access Direct TV. You could record things and access them from the tablet - but you cannot delete them, remotely.
