Disappointed

Just got back from camping at Calimus, in or near Burwell, NE. We've got a '11 KZ Sportsmen Classic Toy Hauler, weighing in at just over 2k pounds, and I must say I am really disappointed in my 3.3 liter V6 not being able to even maintain 60-65 mph without me running the vehicle at 3500 rpms most of the time, and when it comes to hills it jumps up to 5k rpms not maintaining 60 mph at all! Should've bought a V8, even for a light trailer such as mine. [emoji34]

In engines, there is no replacement for displacement.

A friend of mine said and some of us have to learn the hard way (me included)

Have a small engine, go slow and get P**s poor mileage!
Have a big engine, go fast and get p**s poor mileage!

Remember that ALL RVs have the aerodynamics of a barn door! That my friend is the facts of RV life!

Was the trailer loaded? What do you have for a tow vehicle?

Sounds like another case of an RV salesman saying "Yeah your truck can tow that no problem" I've heard plenty of that while looking at RV's. They will tell you anything to make a sale!!

It cant be much of a toy hauler at 2000 lbs. My 16 ft enclosed trailer weighs more than that. What kind of toys are in it. Im thinking you are not correct with the 2k thing. A minivan would pull 2k.

The one thing that always beat cubic inches when I was racing was cubic dollars.

I'd like to know what your tow vehicle is too. My F150 had zero trouble pulling a 7500lb trailer. It usually ran at about 2-3 grand at highway speeds depending on grade. My only downshifts to 5k+ were on steep descents to maintain my speed, never due to lack of power.

3.5L V6, by the way. The replacement for displacement is mass production of forced induction.

It is completely unreasonable for you to expect that 3.3l to produce any towing power at or below 3500rpm. That small duel OHC engine is designed to produce its power at much higher revs.
290hp an 6500 rpm
265 flbs at 4000rpm.
With that high of designed operating RPM and while towing that motor will live happily at 4500 to 5000 rpm all day. Let it run. It was designed for it. Lugging an engine at too low of an rpm while loaded is far more damaging then revs. Spin it up get into the power it is happy at.
This is not your grandfathers 300ci inline 6!!!!
