Dish Network Internet????

just got a brochure in the mail from Dish Network and it shows "high speed internet,no matter where you live,no TV service required $19.99 a month".I didn't know Dish offered Internet.Does anyone have it,is it any good?

Read it again very closely please. More than likely Dish has a partnership agreement with your local wired internet provider.

Read the details, this is bundling. Depending on area this could be DSL or Hughes sat with all of the limitations.

Internet over satellite is VERY touchy and not suitable for RVs.

When I looked into it a while back, I found the data speed was fast in one direction and real slow in the other. I believe the system uses a phone connection to send information to the satellite then the satellite send information back to you. I know I did not think it was anywhere as good as just using our AT&T data.

No phone line, but 2 way satellite. I had WildBlue for a few years until DSL became available in my area. There were a couple of issues back then (5 years), one of which was propagation delay in sending the request from your home, to the satellite, then back to the earth station. But once data started streaming, it was buffered and you got your full download speed which wasn't a lot then. The other issue was that WildBlue had a "fair practice" rule which governed how much data you could do a month before they would start throttling the speed.
After switching to DSL, we got a notification from WildBlue that they had increase the download speed from 3mbs to 12mbs, so things have changed. I met a guy at a campground once that ran his business from satellite internet on the roof of his fifth wheel, so I would dispute it not being good for RVs. You should get the info from the provider instead.

What we don't know is how often the above referenced "Guy at a campground" moved. Sure, sitting stationary for extended periods makes satellite internet a little more friendly but certainly not for RVs that move often. Satellite internet requires VERY precise dish aiming. Of course, as suggested, get your info from the service provider.

Dish has partnerships with other services. 19.95 a month sounds like a cellular phone based service, they also have or had a partnerhsip with Wild Blue, which went bankrupt and was bought out by Exceed (Spelling is off) now that is a very good service.. IF YOU ARE IN A FIXED LOCATIONl.. it is not good for RV however.
Cellular service it woudl depend on the provider.

There are basically only a limited number of ways to internet.

Radio (Check out I-2000 or I2K not sure which) this is a radio repeater network not unlike cellular but different frequencies, Designed for remote areas.

Cellular,, Same as your phone.. This too is a radio service but far wider coverage.

Wires, eitehr twisted pair (DSL/ ADSL/ and one other I forget the name of just now) or coaxial (Comcast, Et-Al) or

Fiber optic

Or two way satellite.. Classic HUGHES (7000 series) you can use in an RV but patience is needed.. Many like it, many do not.

Excede (I think that' show they spell it) is all spot beam, much faster and not compatible with RV life

I use park Wi-Fi, but it is ... Coxial (Local Phone/Cable company) and works rather well most of the time here.

No, but ATT now owns DirecTV.

Echostar, the parent company of Dish Network bought Direcway aka HughesNet a couple of years ago.
