Dish did have a problem with their 522(?) DVR's.. they pointed the cooling fan down so it pulled from the sides then exited the bottom where there was less than 1/2 inch of clearance... very bad for airflow...

We've has Dish for more than five years --- no problems!

Sure wish we could choose just the channels we want, though. ALL service providers should offer ala carte.

I get a kick out of them advertising 150 channels, only they don't tell you 100 of them are shopping channels.

I have all of the junk channels blocked on my DirecTV Sat receivers.
I have not counted to see how many channels are left, but it only takes about 5 or 6 page down clicks and you have come round robin again.

So estimate 6 channels per page, we only watch maybe 40 some channels at most?

FAN Problem:
I always stand my receivers up on edge. Precisely because of the cooling problems with the feet being only about 1/4 inch thick and the vents are in the bottom. The case now just runs a bit warm, before when flat, it ran hot to the touch.

Ya.. the 722 and 922 dvr's dont have that problem anymore as they pull from the bottom, but I went through 4 522's before I relocated them and placed 1" spacers under the feet (2x 1/2" plywood squares).. that really helped. On the current 722's I still have 1/2" spacers..

I've had my problems with Dish also.
Right now, they sent me to collections for $55. Didn't believe me when I said I wanted to cancel. Started out they wanted over $300 because they WOULDN'T cancel at my request. Finally dropped it to $55.

I was with them for about 10 years. Long enough that back then we had to BUY and INSTALL our own equipment. They also conned me into sending them two of MY receivers. Now they won't return them either. Not that I really expected them too but sheehs!

I have talked to them for almost a year now about problems. For six months they could/wouldn't fix problems with service and equipment. So I CANCELED! They don't know what "cancel" means. They just kept billing, up & up.

Rant over... (for now)

I quit watching TV in 2002. I am at peace since I no longer have to hear the blaring idiot commercials. I now read. I have read hundreds of books since then. The books are free. I swap books at campgrounds. Do you realize how much money you spend monthly on various things like pay TV. I am down to paying for cell phone and internet air card by the month. All that money saved is : How many more miles can I go ???

Maybe someday this outfit will actually get going Free Direct Broadcast Satellite Network

It won't work with your DirecTV or Dishnetwork box but the free to air receivers are cheap enough. I don't think the dome sat antennas will work either.

You should check out Netflix. For $9 month you can hook your computer to TV and watch streaming and will also mail you unlmited DVD's
