Do campgrounds seem to be getting stricter

Does it seem like private campgrounds are getting more strict in their rules and regulations (maybe due to the fact campgrounds are getting more and more crowded and filled to capacity more days of the year).
In the last two CGs on this trip the first one only allowed 1 dog per RV site (I've seen as many as 4 pets per site at some CGs), pet must be attended to at all times (no leaving pet alone in camper), must be on leashes no longer than 6 ft, and on a leash from RV to vehicle and vehicle to RV. That sure stops anyone traveling with more than one dog but nothing was said about how many cats could be at each site.

The second CG we stopped at required no overnight stays by children or visitors under age 55. Registered guests must be 55 or older. Daytime visits require persons under age 55 to stay at the site they are visiting and must be escorted by the registered guest at all times. Guess this would eliminate children or grandchildren from spending the night with grandparents.

None of these affected us as travelers but I could see problems for many.

I guess all these rules probably make for better conditions for campers but it seems it sure puts lots of limits on other travelers.

We take our six cats with us, only one of which ever goes out and then only on a leash. If they never go out why should they even count? Maybe when I get one of the others accustomed to a leash and going outside I'll worry about it.

Possibly, however rules are the reason we stay at commercial campgrounds.

We stay at those types of parks just for the reasons you mentioned. Our dog has been attacked twice from large dogs off a leash. A forum friend just had her dog killed at a park in the Keys by a German Sheppard off of a leash.

I have never heard of a cat attacking anyone or another pet in an RV park.

I own commercial property and it is the insurance companies putting the liability restrictions on the number and breeds of dogs that can be allowed on the property. You are correct one person cannot control 4 dogs as easily as one, so insurance companies are going to say no to that.

KOA's are parks where noisy kids are welcome. We prefer not to stay at KOA's.

I will gladly pay the higher price for parks that enforce those rules. We are staying in one now and they even enforce what the RV looks like that will be parked next to me. This park was 100% full by 3 PM.

With out rules you may be camping next to Ma & Paw Kettle, the Clampets, and mobile meth labs. I have seen campers patched and held together with wire, duct tape, boards and rope. I have stayed at a County Lake Campground where people left behind broken furniture, rugs and trash everywhere. At a Thousand Trails Campground I came across two Class C's side by side with all windows covered that expelled the odor of cat litter 50 years away. My call to the Manager was a waste but my call to Animal Control resolved the problem in less than 24 hours. Some feel being homeless or on hard times is an entitlement that exempts them from rules and laws.
The meaning and being a Good Samaritan has disappeared by slobs who leave more than foot prints behind when they depart. These kind of individuals abuse free overnight parking areas and ruins it for others in the future when NO Overnight Parking signs are posted on streets and parking lots.
Parks Rules governing age and appearance of RVs, quiet time, childrens behavior, etc are welcome.

Can't answer your question. Never stayed at one campground long enough to see the rules change eather way. Compareing CG to CG rules may reveal differences between them, some stricter, some less so, but tells me nothing about changes over time.

They do seem to be getting stricter. They kind of have to since the sites are getting smaller and people are getting more rude.

I'm not a big fan of rules but I don't mind so much if it keeps people from getting out of hand. I have been places where it was a zoo.

I suspect it has to do with the breakdown of civility in our society. It used to be you could generally expect the vast majority to use some common sense and respect the property and privacy of others. I believe this is still true of most RV owners but there's more and more that have lost the common sense they were born with and who were never taught even basic manors.

Rules are needed to help curb bad behavior and at least give management a solid excuse for evicting someone that just can't seem to figure it out on their own. How many times have you heard the excuse "well, there's no law/rule against it." The flip side is, they also limit what the rest of us can do.

What I would like to see is a park that excludes all people over 55 unless accompanied by a child. Since these seem to be most of the people who have nothing better to do than complain about what everyone else is doing!!! As for loud noisy kids they should be encouraged, some of you old folk need to be reminded of what it is like to be young, maybe then you wouldn't be so grouchy all the time...

I don't own a pet currently, but raising 5 daughters, I have raised a multitude of dogs & cats that followed them home. 15 years ago, I stopped at a CG near Cape Canaveral Florida, where we were refused because of our 8 pound Sheitzu. I just moved to another CG. I have seen little old ladies being dragged by 2 big dogs on many occasions, which to me didn't seem like fun. I personally don't need the companion of a pet in my life, but I don't belittle those that do. And if CG rules don't appeal to me, there are many that do. After traveling in RV's for 50 years, I don't let minor thicgs boler me anymonr. Eddie Elk.

As always, rules are expressly formulated so the vast majority of ordinary people don't have to tolerate the very small minority who insist on being selfish and inconsiderate and whose constant question is why can't you all be more tolerant.

Most of the campgrounds rules are pretty much standard. If the owner doesn't want a certain clientele, he has every right to exclude them, just as you have to right to not stay with them. I have more of a problem with the campgrounds that don't enforce the rules they post.
