Do you grease your hitch ball/receiver?
Metal on metal never sounds like a good idea to me so what does everyone use for ball/receiver lubrication and how often do you do it?
Looks like a light coat of wheel bearing grease applied to the ball monthly is the recommendation on other forums.

I use wheel bearing grease after wiping it off before each trip.

I do not. Wipe ball off now and then but grease is just too messy and not necessary in my opinion.

We aren't full timing and we don't take long trips where we're towing very often. Those may make a difference in how to handle this. For now, we do tow our boat every time we take the rig out and use no lubrication at all. It gets used enough to where the ball never needs cleaning.

Nope! But my ball moves with the coupler and the owners manual states explicitly not to grease

Well, I wipe mine. I'm towing a RAM pick up on a trailer, fairly heavy load. It only takes a moment to wipe the ball and add a tad of grease. I can't think of any other situation where it is metal to metal that is not lubricated. Can you?

Short run not a big deal, long term it is a good idea to have a little grease on it. Stops some wear and a little groan on occasion in a tight parking turn.

My coach is old and the inside of the receiver was rusty - I wire brushed it and then sprayed it with lanolin based penetrant/lube. I have a spare tire mounted in the receiver now and the lanolin will hang in there to prevent rust.

Yes I grease the ball and coupler. Dry metal rubbing on dry metal is never good and will result in premature failure. Lubing the coupler and latch is a part of the manufacturers maintenance schedule. I'll wipe it all off and refresh it as needed.

Interesting. What is the coupler made of or lined with that they would say not to?

The ball pivots in the hitch head as part of the sway control.
It’s more Andersen WDH weirdness. [emoji16]

Greasing attracts dirt then you get wear, kinda like putting sand in a bearing
