I would let it idle down for a minute or two, especially if you come right off the interstate running good and hot.

I wonder if they leave them running (along interstate hwys) to cool the turbo down, but I bet mostly it is to keep the rig cool/warm or run aux powered equipment like a chill box?

JMHO; To close to the truth to be really funny.
Everything off at the pumps, regardless of the flash point of Diesel fumes that's the safest way.

Under normal conditions you can throw a match into a pan of diesel and the flame will go out. Diesel needs to be very hot or atomized to burn.

We are a gassier.
So anything with a spark potential or flame potential is OFF.

I think back in the dim past there was a reason to keep a diesel running - maybe so the engine would stay hot instead of turning it off and have difficult starts. That's all in the past now. Manufacturers don't recommend idling, and many states have anti-idling laws. New 18 wheeler tractors even have RV generators to run their cab A/C as an alternative to idling the engine.
Lots of people leave their diesels running, especially owners of 4WD pickup trucks who probably think its a macho thing...

I do leave the generator running in hot weather when we have the house a/c on, but I'm using diesel (only) pumps so no gas explosion worries.

but us macho 4x4 owners just want to stay cool in the 105 degree heat.... since we get MUCH betta mpg than you MH drivers wasting all that fuel ...

Mine is a Gasser. It's shut down during re-fule
On a "D"... I'd shut it down anyway... You can play safe all day long.

Cool down for 4 or 5 minutes then shut down to refuel.
Only shut down lp stuff when filling the lp tank.

I know this is going to be the unpopular response out of the bunch, but I leave everything going... We stop at the diesel only stations and are never there for longer than 10 minutes at most... When we stop for lunch or at a rest area, I shut the engine down, but always leave the genny running.
