Do you run your motor while fueling up?
Is it legal to keep your motor running when your fueling up? I've noticed several truckers fueling up while their engines are still running. I have a DP and was wonder what most people do? Shut diesel engine down when fueling up or what?

I always shut mine down, It's the only way I can be sure I'm gaining on it.

We shut the engine off. Stopping for fuel, stopping at a restaurant for food, stopping off at a rest area to stretch legs.

If you are pumping where there are diesel pumps only, it's probably pretty safe. A spark is unlikely to ignite diesel.
If you are pumping at the car pumps where they pump gasoline, any spark could find some wayward gasoline fumes. ... Then Boom!

My Motorhome I shut off but my little TDI as well as my last diesel pickup I always left running just for the reason I always seem to be filling up first thing in the morning when the engine is still cold so it's a great chance to let it warm up I usually get odd stares but as in my nature I smile and nod

Ours is always shut down.. Many areas of the US have "anti idling" laws limiting idle time (5 minutes or so) due to unnecessary pollution...

Shut it off. Some systems have vapor interlocks that might cause problems I suppose. Better to be safe than sorry.

Signs at most pump islands tell you to stop engine. If a fire ever started any your engine was running, guess who they are going after.

I would have to have a specific reason for leaving it running, and that would be rare, I think. I don't have the coach out on cold winter mornings when it needs to get warmed up!
I do leave the generator running in hot weather when we have the house a/c on, but I'm using diesel (only) pumps so no gas explosion worries.

I have to admit that I never quite understood newer trucks needing to keep the engine running except under extreme conditions. I also understand that it might be uncomfortable in high temps to shut the generator down for AC. All that being said, I shut it all down. My refer is residential so that takes care of that. My travels have been summer time so I admit that I hadn't factored in running the furnace so I will factor that in as needed.
Granted, diesel doesn't spark like gas does but I still use a lot of combo pumps with gas in the area.
